down, taking several deep breaths. When she finally looked up, she had tears in her eyes. "You would make an amazing father, Grayson.”
I wiped a tear from her cheek and smiled. "And you, an amazing mother.”
    She shook her head. "No."
"Are you kidding? I see how are you are with Noah and Abby. They love you.” She kept shaking her head, and I cupped her face and kissed her.
"Grayson, after I miscarried, there was a lot of damage; a lot of scarring. My chances of ever conceiving are slim to none, and if I did, it’s a twenty percent chance. I can't give you a baby. That's not fair to you, and I'm sorry for letting this go this far knowing this. I didn't mean to fall in love with you. I'm so sorry. I didn't think I would fall in love with you.” I pulled her to me. That fucking bastard ripped her of everything. She suddenly stood up.
"I'm so sorry, Grayson, I didn’t know how to tell you. I should've told you from the start before things got serious. I can't do this anymore. You deserve someone who will give you what you want. Give you what you need.” She could barely get the words out as she cried harder. I stood up and crushed her to me. "Don't say that. Don't you fucking say that; do you hear me? It doesn't matter. You're all I need; do you hear me?” She shook her head no, and I gripped her tighter. "Stop it. When I said I wasn't letting you go, I meant it, dammit. We'll figure it out. There’re options, okay? Lots of options. Specialists to consult, if you want, and if it's too much for you to handle, we can adopt. Or fur babies, lots of fur babies. Whatever you want, baby, I swear, but you're not giving up on us. I won't let you.” I held her tighter. Her crying had subsided, and I sat us down, her in my lap. God I loved her. All of her, and for the first time, I didn’t know what to say or do to fix something, other than to just hold her.

I awoke a few hours later with Emmalin gone from bed. I had gotten used to that habit. I got up and went to the kitchen, following the smell of coffee. She was fully dressed and ready for work. “What are you doing?”
“It’s Monday. I thought I’d go in early to catch up on a few things.” She handed me a cup.
“I’d rather you stay home, Emmalin. Especially after what happened.”
“I’m fine, Grayson. Really.” I ran my hand through my hair. “I suppose there’s no reasoning with you?” She shook her head. “Okay. Fine. Give me twenty minutes.”

    Emmalin

Almost twenty minutes exactly and we were heading down the lobby. The first thing I noticed almost immediately was the different vehicle occupied by Alistair, as well as the new guy riding with him up front. After getting in, I turned to Grayson. “What happened to the other car?”
    “These offer more protection.”
I glanced at the guy in the passenger seat. “Did it come with the guy too?”
“That’s Hawkins. He’s assigned to you. As well as the car following us. That’s Heather. Alistair is going out of town, so they’ll be temporary.” I turned around to look at the SUV I hadn’t noticed following us. “What’s all this for?”
He looked at me. “You were attacked, Emmalin. You really think I wasn’t going to take any small precautions? All Jack has concluded so far is that they seem to have been targeting you, which doesn’t make any sense to me.” I sank back into my seat. We pulled up to corporate and sat by the curb a minute before getting out. “You sure you wouldn’t rather work from home?”
I shook my head. “No, I need the distraction.” He sighed before grabbing my hand and leading me out.
“Thank you, Alistair. Hawkins, Heather, this is Emmalin.” I shook both hands. “I expect you both know your details.”
“Absolutely, sir.” Heather gave me a polite smile. I noticed the additional security inside the building as well. If Carson planned to get inside, I didn’t see it happening.
    Grayson walked me to my
