were, I knew I wouldn’t be able to turn you in.” She didn’t look at him when she said this, and the sorrow that shined through in her posture made him believe what she was saying.
“Did you want to?” He asked wondering why he wanted her to say something negative. Maybe so he wouldn’t feel too bad if he had to do it to her to save his own neck.”
“When they first offered me the assignment, I wasn’t sure I wanted any parts of it. During my time in prison, I decided I was going to go the straight and narrow. I wasn’t going to do any drugs or get into any trouble, but I tried all the usual ways to get employment, and it’s nearly impossible.”
She looked at him after staring at her plate during her speech, and her bright shiny eyes were a testament to how she felt about what she was saying.
“I didn’t think about it, really, they gave me the name, the name of a few places where they thought you might hang out, and a general description. What they should have given me was a picture, but hindsight is 20/20.” She let out a big breath as if what she said took everything she had, and he still didn’t know what to do about his situation.
“Are you done eating?” He didn’t know how to respond to what she’d told him, so he thought changing the subject would be the best thing to do. She wasn’t really eating anything anyway, and her food was just being dragged around her plate.
“You aren’t going to forgive me, are you?” She sounded sad, but he couldn’t let himself be swayed. He’d saved her ass a few hours ago, and that was enough for now.
“I don’t know what’s going on, Ella, and I’m trying to work out a few things for myself. It’s hard for me to trust in the first place, but once I find that the person in question would be able to lie to me with a straight face. I don’t know if I want to forgive you, because there is rarely honor among thieves.”
“I understand that, Tyson, I truly do, but I’m just asking that you consider what I’ve told you. I’m telling you that I was desperate, but I never turned you in. Bruce called me, and I talked to him when I thought you were asleep. You asked me who I was talking to, but I couldn’t tell you that I was trying to get you more time.” She was good at pleading her case, but he just needed her to stop.
“How about we just let it settle down and talk about this another time. It’s been a long day, and we both have some thinking to do.”
She got up and started putting everything away. “Why don’t you go sit on the couch, and I’ll come over when I’m done.”
He wasn’t going to complain about that. It seemed like talking to her now wasn’t anything like it was less than 24 hours ago. Edgy, raw, and questioning. That was how he felt with every conversation, and he didn’t like it. They needed a new plan, and he needed to figure out if he was going to be doing this mission alone or with a partner. Her sorrow was eating him alive, and this situation couldn’t be good for either one of them.
Television had never interested him, but he found a baseball game that he could watch, but before he could figure out who was winning. he had a nice warm body straddling his lap. This was something they could do with no problem… they were good at this. He wasn’t sure of what all he could give her at this time, but he could give her all of the sexual, physical stuff she could handle. She kissed his mouth like it was an attack, and he loved it. Desperate and needy. He shouldn’t think that was attractive, and he shouldn’t have wanted more. If this little wildcat wanted to be fucked hard, she was in for a treat because the mood he was in wasn’t for soft kisses and love taps.
He grabbed her head in his hands to stop her frantic movements and let her know that she was going to get what she wanted if she moved to the beat of his drum… not the other way around. His eyes were
