Will.
âWhereâs Caleb?â asked Steve.
âI assume he respawned wherever he slept last,â said Kyra. âI hope we see him again.â
âMe, too,â said Will.
The group gathered in Steveâs living room. Night was setting and they needed their energy for their second attempt to travel to the desert.
âI canât believe we had to start all over again. This is so annoying. Iâm really worried about Henry, Max, and Lucy,â Steve said as he paced back and forth.
âWell thereâs nothing we can do about it now. We need to get rest, and tomorrow we can start our trip to the desert,â said Kyra.
Will looked at the map. âI have an idea. If we go to the Nether, we can get to the desert and we wonât have to go through the swamp and the mountains.â
âThe Nether,â said Kyra. âUgh, I hate the Nether.â
âNobody likes the Nether,â added Steve.
âI donât mind it,â Alex smiled.
Two pairs of purple eyes crept past Steveâs window.
âWe need to get to bed. Itâs too dangerous to be in here,â Steve told them. The group walked to the bedroom and got in their beds.
âYou never told us how you slayed the Ender Dragon,â Kyra said from her bed.
âSnowballs,â replied Alex. âSteve and I did it together.â
The group slept. When they awoke in the morning light, Steve filled up his inventory with potions and food.
âWe need to be prepared,â Steve informed them. âI know weâve all been to the Nether before, but itâs always a challenge.â
The gang gathered outside the house and began to work on the frame for the Nether portal. They used obsidian to build four corners.
âWho has flint and steel?â asked Steve.
Alex took some out of her inventory and made a fire to activate the portal. âThis time weâre all going together,â Alex said as they gathered in the portal. The portal made a loud, creepy sound and omitted purple mist. They were on their way to the red lavaâfilled landscape of the Nether.
Within seconds of their arrival, two white ghasts with their eyes and mouths closed flew past them.
âOh good, they donât see us,â said Will.
One ghast opened its evil red eyes and shrieked.
âYou spoke too soon!â Steve cried out and grabbed his bow and arrow.
The ghast shot a fireball at Steve. The flaming ball sped through the sky. Steve shot an arrow at the ball, deflecting it as it raced back toward the ghast.
Boom! The ghast exploded.
The other ghast made a loud noise, aiming a fireball at Alex. Steve jumped in front of Alex, shooting at the ball and again deflecting it to hit the ghast.
Ka-boom! The second ghast was destroyed.
âI canât believe weâve only been here a minute and weâve already been attacked by ghasts,â remarked Kyra. âI told you I hate the Nether.â
Will looked out across a sea of lava. âI think I see a Nether fortress.â
âIt could have treasure!â Alex was excited.
âWhat about the map?â Steve questioned. âI want to find my friends.â
âMaps donât work in the Nether, remember?â replied Alex.
âThatâs right.â Steve was upset. âHow are we going to find our way?â
âItâs fine,â Will reassured him. âIf we make it to the Nether fortress, we can create a portal over there and get back to the Overworld, and then we shouldnât be too far from the desert.â
âIf we make it to the Nether fortress,â Kyra repeated.
The gang walked slowly through the netherrack ground, stopping by a lava waterfall.
âI hate to admit it,â Kyra said, âbut the waterfall is kind of pretty.â
The group agreed as they carefully avoided getting any lava on them. They didnât want to wind up on the wheat farm, having to start the journey for a third
