hours. I wondered how many of those minutes had been spent next to Cooper. Had he just left me after returning me to my own bed? Or had we cuddled together for a while beforehand?
Next time I would make sure to stay awake so I knew the answer for sure. I wanted to know everything about Cooper King; there was no detail too small.
My stomach rumbled, reminding me I needed to eat. I threw on some clothes and hurried downstairs, through the maze of corridors to reach the kitchen. I stopped in my tracks when I saw Cooper standing by the sink.
“Ah, you’re awake,” he exclaimed happily. He was holding a mug of coffee, which he held up. “Would you like tea or coffee?”
The enigmatic billionaire was prepared to make me a hot beverage? There seemed to be so much I didn’t know about the man. “Coffee would be great, thank you.” I slid onto the stool at the counter and watched his every move.
Cooper’s body was as beautiful as a temple, so muscled and sculptured that he would have made a better statue in a museum than an actual person. When he reached into the top cupboard for a mug, all his sleek lines were on display.
“Cream and two sugars, right?” he asked. I wondered how exactly he knew how I liked my coffee. The cook from the day before must have told him. Either that or it was a lucky guess.
“Yes, please.” He served up the coffee, steam rising from the mug in wisps that quickly disappeared. “You don’t have to be at work today?”
He sat on the stool beside me, so close our knees touched. “I scheduled nothing for today so we could get to know each other better.”
“Aren’t you really busy?”
A chuckle escaped his lips. God, I loved it when he laughed. I just wanted to kiss his smile. “Very busy. But right now you’re more important than anything else. Besides, my assistant has my cell phone number. She’ll call if there is an emergency.”
He was taking time out of his schedule just for me. It was sweet that he prioritized me when he had so many other things going on. If he was that committed to making our relationship work, then I would make sure I was too. This wasn’t just a job, it was the beginning of an adventure we were sharing.
I already knew I could easily fall in love with the man. It felt completely right being with him. If it hadn’t, there was no way I could have done what I did with him earlier. The universe had brought us together, and I couldn’t wait to see where it would take us.
Cooper didn’t stay on the stool for more than a few minutes before he pulled a platter of sandwiches out of the refrigerator. He placed them on the counter between us, tearing back the plastic wrap and balling it to throw in the trash.
“I hope you don’t mind sandwiches for lunch. Ricardo wanted to go grocery shopping, and I find it best if I never say no to the man.” Cooper’s cheeks dimpled when he smiled. They were possibly the most adorable cheeks in the world. I felt like an old lady, just itching to pinch them.
I picked up one of the little triangles and took a bite. They weren’t ordinary PB&J sandwiches. They would have been more at home in a high-end French patisserie. “Of course I don’t mind. These things are amazing.”
“Well, eat up. We’ve got a big afternoon ahead of us.”
“We do?”
“Uh-huh.” He had an impish sparkle in his emerald eyes.
“What are we going to do?” I asked playfully. Really, I was onboard no matter what he said we were doing.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
He wouldn’t tell me anything more, no matter how many times I asked. We ate the platter of sandwiches until I was so full I could barely move.
The only clue Cooper gave me about our afternoon activities was that we were going somewhere. We climbed into his Audi and were driving through the gates of his estate in no time.
“How come you don’t have a chauffeur?” I asked
