debt forever if this is what she wants.” He had a big smile crossed his face. No wonder the girl was smitten.
She took the box from his hands and pulled out the ring with diamonds on it. “You will have to get down on one knee.” He immediately followed her directions and placed one of his knees on the floor in front of her. She gave him a diamond ring, “You will need to take this ring with the diamonds in it, and ask her to marry you. If she says yes, you will slip it onto her left ring finger like this.” She demonstrated the ring on her finger, but the ring was a bit small for her and she could not slide it past her second knuckle. “Would you like to practice on me?”
“You wouldn’t mind?” Ceran said as he remained on his knee. When she shook her head, he took the ring that Grace had handed him and held it out to her. He said, “Will you marry me?” Grace giggled and gave her best impression of Laura’s voice and accent, saying yes. He slid the ring on her finger as far as it would go as she nodded in approval.
“That will do. But, if I could, I’d like to make a suggestion. When you sense the perfect opportunity arise to ask her you should tell her how you feel about her and why you want her in your life,” Grace added. “Girls always like to hear all the good things that their men think about them.”
“What can I give you for these rings? They look valuable after all, and they must mean something to you. I mean, you brought them all the way here with you.”
“My mother’s grandparents got married using those rings. They were simply one of the many family heirlooms that I brought along with me and one that I didn’t necessarily need to keep. I see no better purpose for these rings than to give them to you. They are just sitting in a dark box waiting to be used again. I believe that it would honor my great-grandparents by letting you and Laura have them. Go on, take them,” she said. “All I want in exchange is details. I want to know everything that happens when you ask her to marry you. You know, I can even perform the ceremony for you both if she wishes. I was once asked to marry a couple of friends of mine. Robert and Edward were in love and the state of New York had just legalized gay marriage. I took an online course and I am actually an ordained minister in the state of New York.”
“Thanks, Grace! This is really great,” Ceran said as he looked down at the rings in the box pulling out the largest one and placing it on his finger. It was a perfect fit as if it was meant to be his. He looked at them and smiled. “I’m going home. Thanks for everything. I’m sorry I was upset with you earlier Zane, but I meant what I said. You two have a good night,” Ceran said as he showed himself out.
Once Grace and Zane were alone, she said, “You know Zane, I am so glad that we bypassed all the awkward stages of a relationship and jumped right in.” She leaned over and kissed him on his temple. Zane pulled her into his arms and kissed her. His lips tasted of the lemon liqueur he was sipping. He made her lay down on the sofa as she giggled with anticipation of what was to come.
“Agreed,” he mumbled as he kissed down her neck. “How was your day?”
“Oh, Doctor, I have been a very naughty girl today,” she shivered as he nibbled down her neck to her shoulder blade. His hands were busy exploring her body.
“So,” He was now beginning to unbutton her blouse, “Are you saying you need to be punished? Is that what we are aiming for tonight?”
“Oh, yes I am!” She pulled his head to hers and gave him a kiss. The kisses were getting hotter by the second. Letting out a moan, she could feel the need for him burning inside her. “Do you know of a cure for my unruly behavior, Doctor?”
“Do I ever!” He kneeled in front of her and lifted her off the sofa. Carefully he placed her down on the rug near the fireplace as he opened her shirt over her shoulders. She could see him
