as he glanced at the setting sun. âThere isnât a moment to lose!â
As everyone left the greenhouse, Chip tried to smile. He hoped they were right!
C ogsworth cleared his throat, took a deep breath, and stepped up to the door of Belleâs room. Then he knocked with three loud raps.
âPlease pardon the interruption,â he called. âDo you have a moment to spare?â
The door opened just enough for Belle to poke her head into the hallway. She looked surprised to see the Beast, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip, and Lumiere standing there. âOh, hello, everyone,â Belle said. She opened the door wider. âPlease come in. I was just about to start getting dressed for the ballââ
âAh, ah, ah!â cried Wardrobe as she whisked Belleâs dress away and slammed her doors shut. âNo peeking!â
There was a flurry of activity as the vanity table and shoe tree followed Wardrobeâs example, rushing about to hide Belleâs pretty shoes and accessories.
âAhem!â Cogsworth suddenly said in a very proper voice. âShall we get right to the presentation?â
âWhat presentation?â Belle asked.
âGo ahead, my dear,â Mrs. Potts whispered to Chip as she gave him a little nudge.
The only sound in the room was the plink, plink, plink of Chip hopping across the marble floor to Belle. He tilted his head down so that she could see inside the teacup.
âWhy, what do we have here?â Belle asked curiously. Chip spilled the bracelet with all its charms into her open palm.
It took Belle a moment to realize what Chip had given her. Then she gasped in delight. âIs itâis itâ?â Belle began. âIs it a charm braceletâ¦for me?â
âAfter we heard about the bracelet your father gave you, we all agreed you should have one to wear tonight,â Mrs. Potts said. âSo each of us made a different charm for it.â
Belle clapped her hands. âLet me guess!â she said excitedly.
First, Belle attached the star to the bracelet. âThe star gleams like golden candlelight. Lumiere? Did you make this charm for me?â
âIt was my pleasure, mademoiselle,â Lumiere said, bowing grandly.
âAnd this beautiful teacup, hmm, let me think. Mrs. Potts?â
âRight you are, my dear!â Mrs. Potts exclaimed.
Next, Belle picked up the holly charm. âHolly is so festive,â she commented. âAnd I remember Cogsworth mentioning holly earlier.â¦â
Cogsworth smiled proudly.
âJust two charms left,â Belle commented. âOh, my goodness, look at this lovely rose all covered with sparkling frost! Did you make this rose for me?â she asked, looking toward the Beast.
âYes, I did,â he replied. He looked down modestly, but there was no mistaking the happiness in his voice.
âThank you,â Belle said quietly as she placed her hand on his arm. âItâs beautiful.â
Their eyes met for a moment before Belle, blushing, turned back to the bracelet. âAnd last but not least,â she continued, âa snowflake charm! Oh, itâs amazing! Look how it sparklesâjust like a real snowflake. Chip, how did you ever make such a stunning charm?â
âI added a little extra diamond dust,â Chip said. âDo you like it, Belle?â he asked hopefully.
Belle smiled. As she attached the charm to the center of the bracelet, her voice grew serious. âChip, itâs beautifulâthe whole bracelet is,â Belle said. âItâs not the same as my old one, but that doesnât make it any less special to me. Thank you. Thank you all.â
Belle paused for a moment before she spoke again. âMy father always said that the snowflake charm was a symbol for change,â she said. âAnd my life has changed a lot since I came to the castle. Iâm very grateful to have made such special new friends. Iâm
