girlfriend,
have I got news for you.  While you were away I decided to be your personal
P.I.”  Excitement oozed from Vanessa’s voice.
    “What are you
talking about?”
    “I went on the
Internet and decided to google the new-found love of your life, Antonio
Stone.  Guess what P.I. Vanessa came up with?”  Vanessa was obviously proud of
herself.  She gave a dramatic pause, waiting for Marilyn’s response.
    “I give up,”
Marilyn said, not wanting to prolong the wait.  “What did you find out about
him?”
    Vanessa chuckled
into the phone.  “Are you sure you’re ready for this?”
    “Yesss, just tell
me already.”
    “Antonio Stone is
one of the most eligible bachelors in America.  He’s a mega-millionaire.”
Vanessa screamed as she said the final word.
    Totally shocked,
Marilyn gripped the phone tighter.  She’d known he was into the fitness
business.  After all, he’d said he had a gym in Paris.  But she’d had no idea
he was this big.  Maybe Vanessa had made a mistake.  “What are you talking
about, Vanessa?  Are you on crack or something?”  Could Antonio really be a
mega-millionaire?  He seemed so easy going and simple.  No way.  Vanessa had
definitely gotten him mixed up with someone else.
    “If you don’t
believe me get your laptop and google his name right now.  I’m waiting.”
    Marilyn hurried to
her bedroom, grabbed her laptop and switched it on.  When google came up she
typed in the name, ‘Antonio Stone’.
    When the page
opened she could not believe what she was seeing. She was looking at a picture
of Antonio and the caption read, “One of America’s most eligible bachelors,
Antonio Stone owns the world-famous Work It chain of gyms.”
    She picked up the
cell phone again and all she could do was scream.  “Vanessa, I can’t believe
what I’m seeing.  I would never have thought he was a big shot.  He’s so
easy-going.”
    Vanessa laughed.
“It’s the ones that haven’t got anything who pretend they have it all.  The
ones who are loaded don’t flaunt it.”
    “You are so right
about that,” Marilyn said, still in a state of shock.
    “Well, girl, glad
to have you back but we’ll talk later.  I’d better get off this phone before my
boss comes looking for me.”  Within seconds Vanessa was gone.
    For the next two
minutes Marilyn just sat there staring at the computer screen in total
disbelief.

CHAPTER NINE
    T he next day
Marilyn arrived at work in a good mood and after settling in and catching up on
some of her work she decided to give Antonio a quick call.  She intended to be
calm and relaxed.  She would not mention anything about what she’d found out.
    As the phone rang
she just smiled to herself.  This was too good to be true.
    On the third ring
he answered.  “Good morning, Miss Love.  How are you doing today?”  As usual
his mellow voice had her so she paused then replied.  “I’m fine, thank you,
sir.  How are you?”
    “That depends on
what you have to tell me about our dinner date for later,” he said in his usual
confident tone.
    “I guess you’ll be
in a good mood because I’ll be dining with you later.”  Her playful tone had
him laughing.
    “I look forward to
seeing you at seven. Have a wonderful day.”
    With that he was
gone but she continued to dance to the melody of his voice still playing in her
head.
    Before long she got
back into the groove and was working down the pile that had built up while she
was on her trip.  But she realized that she couldn’t stop watching the clock on
the wall in her office.  She felt like a teenager, nervous about her first
date.  As soon as the clock struck five she was packing up and heading through
the door.
    Marilyn was
surprised when the traffic was not as bad as the normal five o’clock rush hour
but then she remembered that school was out for the summer.  She got home at
five-thirty and quickly headed for the shower.  She turned on the radio and
