chuckle.
Dargon's head popped up. "Persuade me of what?"
Zeus pushed off the wall. If he did not get them out of the cabin quickly, he would drag Dargon and Alpha back to the sleeping platform and endeavor to saturate the room with their scents. It would take an entire day to cover the intrusive reminders that others had entered his nest.
"We will tell you later." Zeus opened the cabin door. "You need to eat."
Dargon shrugged on a red tunic. "I will hold you to that. I am starving." He stopped next to Zeus and ran his finger lightly over Zeus’s bruised throat. "If you are not up to answering your brothers' questions, we could eat here."
Zeus’s eyes fluttered closed at the touch. Tempting, but he had no choice other than to face his brothers and their questions. "Let us go."
Zeus could tell by the press of Dargon's lips and the muscle tick under his right eye that Dargon wanted to argue about him being up and about while wounded. He was relieved Dargon refrained from commenting and that he shortened his stride to match Zeus’s limping one. By the time they exited the Oethra 7 and made the trek to the stateroom on the Gorgon, Zeus looked forward to taking a seat. Any seat, actually.
The Oethra 7 would be docked on The Gorgon's flight deck until they reached Valespian space. There, Dargon would notify Galactic Crown Prince Malek that they had liberated the Fal'Amoric royal family, and tell him about the pursuit by the psi-trackers. It was Prince Malek who had sent Dargon on a mission to locate not only the missing Fal'Amoric race, but the Bespoken to Crown Prince Malek and Crown Prince Vipre. The three would assume the roles of the Galactic Emperors and renew the power the grid, keeping the V'Saar from consuming the rest of the galaxies. The Bespoken, whose birth name was Prometheus, had not been among the Fal'Amoric found on the human penal colony, but Zeus knew where to find knowledge of the lost prince's location. If the Bespoken could not be found, the crown princes might be tempted to claim Zeus in Prometheus's place.
Canry's revelations worried Zeus more than he wanted to admit. If the V'Saar broke through the grid and waited for them in Valespian space, then Zeus may not have a choice. He would be taken and claimed in the Bespoken's stead to protect the galaxies. Only Canry’s suggestion of appealing to the Feteine for help gave Zeus hope that he could stay with Dargon and Alpha.
In the stateroom, only a few seats at the table were not taken. Overwhelmed by an instinctual protective response to the crowd, Zeus paused for a moment to keep from backing out of the room. Everyone present had gained his respect and trust in the last few weeks, but there were still too many people.
Seeing them standing at the door, Azaes gestured to the seats on his left.
Zeus forced down his sensitivity and crossed the room to the head of the table, giving Dargon the chair between him and Azaes. They would need to devise some sort of plan soon, because he could not continue to fight his nature throughout Alpha's entire pregnancy. To do so would guarantee that there would be casualties.
Taking a deep breath, he let it out as he glanced about the table. Athena, the leader of the Fal'Amorics, sat next to Altan. Sohm'lan and two lower-ranked warlords sat across from Zeus. Many of Dargon's flight crew sat around the table as well.
As soon as he took his seat, the wait staff began to bring out plated meals specifically designed for each person there. Additional platters were placed in the center of the table before the staff left. Watching Dargon add more food to his plate, he tempered the overwhelming urger to serve Dargon as if he were a pregnant Mar'Sani female, still surprised by the strength of his desire. They had yet to discuss the customs of Dargon's culture. Not being a Mar'Sani by blood and birth, he had not expected to struggle with the overwhelming feelings of protectiveness and possessiveness typical of the Mar'Sani
