concerned that she might not even have a spare tire.   She heard the click of the man’s boots as he stepped off the curb, and he walked up behind her while she opened the hatchback and pushed the cooler over to lift the carpet.
“It don’t matter, sweetheart.   We won’t be needing it.”
Tiana turned around with a confused expression.   Her eyes widened at the same time as she heard the rip of the tape off the roll, and it sealed her lips and wound over her ponytail three times before she even thought to lift her hands to stop him.
She reached up to push him away and run, but he spun her easily around and slammed her onto the floor of the car.   Her head banged the edge of the cooler and stunned her for a moment, and by then she felt her hands being taped behind her.
Oh god… it’s the highway guy.   Tiana thought of her flat tire and how stupid she had been to only think about Adam not being there to help her.   She screamed and bucked, and the man laughed at her.
“You might be pint sized, but you got some fight in you,” he chuckled.   Dillon caught a flailing leg, and he took the time to measure the sole of her shoe against his hand.   “Yep, tiny thing, aren’t ya’?”   Once more, his excitement with the abduction caused him to slip into the easy Texas drawl of his youth.
Tiana felt her ankles pulled together, and she began to wail.   She screamed as the air left her lungs when the man threw her up over his shoulder, and she looked frantically towards the ramps for headlights while he walked towards the driver’s door of her car.   She could not see what he was doing, but she hoped that he was taking her purse.   She had pepper spray and her cell phone inside it.   When he turned around, she saw the contents of her purse dumped onto the seat.   The spray and cell phone were mixed in with the clutter, and the only thing missing was her wallet.
Tiana screamed again, and she began to bang her head against his jacket.   His hand came down forcefully on her bottom, and Tiana shrieked in surprise.   “Stop that,” the man laughed.   “Behave yourself.”
Tiana heard him open the truck door, and she felt herself rising when he climbed up the step.   The passenger seat was already folded and forward, and he pulled himself the rest of the way into the back with the girl still shrieking.
Tiana was tossed onto something soft, and she tried to get to her knees.   A strong hand pushed her onto her stomach, and she heard the ripping sound of the tape again.   A gloved hand grabbed her bound ankles, and pulled them towards her wrists, and when Tiana tried to straighten them, a hand crashed down onto her bottom again.
“I told you to behave,” the man growled.   He wrenched her legs up.   Tiana felt herself pulled into a bowed arch while he wrapped tape between her wrists and ankles, locking them together.
At this point she was sobbing, and she felt a gloved hand stroke down her back and over her bottom.   “Settle down, now.   We got a ways to go before I can pull off again.”   The cowboy rolled her onto her back, and her weight pressed down onto her bound and folded limbs.
Tiana watched him move back up front, fix the seat, and then he reached out to pull the door shut.   The loud bang made her jump and scream again.   The man moved back to the driver’s seat, and she heard him grind the truck into gear.   The more speed they picked up, the more her heart raced, as if inside she knew that she was moving further away from freedom.
They drove for hours, and Tiana saw daybreak through the top of the windshield.   Her arms and legs were strained painfully and at first they became her main consideration as the truck rolled down the highway.   Eventually, they became somewhat numb, which allowed Tiana the uneasy ability to concentrate on her situation.
The mattress she lay on was deep, like her pillow top mattress cover she used at home, though much thicker.   It kept her
