clung to his shoulders, her breath coming in harsh pants even as she felt that sense of peace that came from feeding the hunger that could turn her into a raving lunatic.
She didn’t know how long they stood there, but it had to be several minutes at least.
It took her that long to realize there was something different about how she felt.
    Something…more satisfying.
But she was tired, too tired to think about it now.
Teo shifted and she tightened her arms around him reflexively. But he only moved his head to press his lips to her temple.
“You okay?” he asked, his warm breath brushing against her cheek as his softened shaft slipped from her.
    “I’m fine.”
And she was. She was more than fine. She felt more replete than she’d ever felt, at least since she’d been a child.
Her lips lifted in a smile and she turned her head to press her mouth to his neck, feeling the erratic pulse pounding there. “Will you stay?”
He froze for a millisecond before asking, “You live above the bar?”
“Yeah.” She moved her legs to unwrap them from his waist but he tightened his arms. She left them there.
“Where are the stairs?” His voice was a deep rumble in his chest against her ear.

With a few words, she directed him through the kitchen to the stairs to the second floor. To her bedroom.
She knew that Teo, a linchetto , could see as well as a cat in the dark. But she hoped he wouldn’t notice the stark décor of her bedroom.
No personal items lay on the dresser against the wall. She owned no jewelry and she had no family pictures. No dirty clothes littered the bare hardwood floor. In the center of the room, a thick mattress set on a wooden platform formed her bed. That and the dresser were the only furniture in the room.
Teo never broke stride as he headed for the bed, pulling back the quilt and sheets with one hand. Setting her to the side of the queen-size mattress, he spread himself out in the center and reached for her, spreading her on top of his body. Her muscles loose and warm, she draped over him, feeling like a sleepy kitten snuggling against a huge, warm, sleek panther. Without all the fur.
Not that Teo didn’t have hair. Soft brown hair lightly dusted his chest, arms and legs. It tickled against her cheek, flat against his pec, where his heart beat strong and sure.
She wanted nothing more than to drift off to sleep in his arms, to wake with him wrapped around her tomorrow morning.
Safe. Secure in the knowledge that he wouldn’t wake her from a deep sleep to beat her or force her to have sex.
A shudder rippled through her as the past tried to intrude. The not-so-distant past.
“Are you cold, hon?” Teo’s arms tightened around her before he reached down to grab the covers and pull them up around their bodies.
She tried for a light tone. “How can I be? You give off heat like a furnace.”
His laugh rumbled through her like a quake, gorgeous and sexy. “Glad I can be of some use.”
A smile snuck up on her. “Oh, you definitely have other uses.”

“Are you sure I didn’t…hurt you?”
Something in his voice made her pause before she answered. He sounded truly worried that he had. She lifted her upper body and rested her head on her hands on his chest.
Half linchetti herself, she could see just as well as he could. His expression showed nothing but his eyes bored into hers. “I’m fine, Teo. Why would you think that?”
He didn’t answer right away. “Well, you look like a stiff wind would blow you over and I’m not exactly small.”
“I’m stronger than I look.” She’d had to be.
    “Why?”
Her eyes widened. Shit, had she said that last part out loud?
When she didn’t answer, he said, “Why are you stronger than you look?”
She tried to hold his gaze but she couldn’t. She picked a spot on that firm chin as she shrugged. “It’s just a saying.”
“No, it’s not. Not for you.” He put one finger under her
