caught it with his tongue and licked it up.
“This fruit is called a love apple. Some women slide it into their pussies and then let their lovers eat it from them. Perhaps we should try it.”
He stroked her nipple, drawing it tight between his finger and thumb. She shifted uneasily on his lap, trying to find a hard place to rub against. To distract him she asked another question. “Are there not many women on your planet? I don’t think I have seen any, or is it just that you prefer all your companions at the palace to be male?”
Marcus resettled her on his lap, away from his hipbone. “There are very few females born to our race. Our scientists do not understand why. Most women are kept hidden away by their menfolk because they are so precious. That’s why you don’t see them serving at my court. I wouldn’t be able to protect them from some of the more dangerous males.”
Douglass leaned back until her breast grazed the edge of his cloak. “Can they not protect themselves?”
Marcus frowned as if she’d insulted him. “We are quite capable of defending our womanfolk . Why should they have to fight?” He drank from his goblet. “Why do your males allow you to travel so far from home?”
“Because they don’t own us. Our planet has plenty of women on it. I choose to work for a living. I enjoy my job.”
    His smile widened. “You ‘work’?”
“What did you think I was doing in the outreaches of the galaxy? Having a vacation?”
He wiped his mouth and concentrated on her face. “I wondered if you had been set adrift as a punishment or were running away from someone.”
“Nope, I was doing my job. Haven’t you ever heard of the United Planetary Parcel Service?”
He shook his head. “We rarely see any spacecraft here, only the agricultural transports that come to pick up our grain and produce for market.”
Douglass swallowed hard. Was that why no one had come to find her? Her last scheduled delivery had been to the outermost planet in the UPPS system, a planet that had only been visited twice in the last ten years. Information was still sketchy about this whole area of space. She’d only taken on the assignment because of the huge financial bonus attached to its completion. Planet Valhalla certainly hadn’t registered on her ship’s guidance systems or charts. The king brushed a finger across her brow.
“Do not look so worried, my consort. We will continue to try and contact your people.”
Douglass studied his arrogant features. She wasn’t sure he believed her about her job. He seemed to find the idea of her choosing to work slightly amusing. Her mind wasn’t functioning well enough to embark on an argument about feminism. She needed to attend to other pressing matters first. Greatly daring, she picked up a piece of fruit, placed it between her lips and offered it to Marcus. Surely he’d kiss her now?
She sighed as his lips met hers and melded into his. He kissed her with a deliberate slowness, a conscious taking possession of her mouth. She pressed herself shamelessly against him, whimpering as his long fingers fondled her breast and tried to rock her pelvis into his side.
He drew back and studied her. “What is it you want, my consort?”
She squirmed closer to his taut, muscular frame. “I think you know.”
He gestured at the three men who sat at their feet eating their supper. “Do you wish one of your men to serve you?”
She laid her hand on his chest. “No.”
He raised an eyebrow. “They do not please you?”
Douglass dug her nails into his skin. He didn’t even flinch.
“They please me. They just don’t please me enough.”
He removed her hand from his chest, kissed it and gave it back to her. “Then what is it you want?” He held her gaze, his golden eyes steady.
Douglass decided she had nothing to lose. She’d already cavorted naked in front of a room of complete strangers. She’d allowed four men to sexually stimulate her at the same time. Why
