myself out,” I said feeling a bit pissed off by her treatment of me.
"Thank you for stopping by," she said with a weak smile. Then she bit her lower lip as though she was trying to hold something back. It was very strange. I nodded a goodbye to her and then said, "I'll see you at the wedding."
Then I walked out and her annoying boss trailed behind me lavishing compliments on me and walking me out the door. I don’t know what the man said exactly because I stopped outside my car and peered back in through the glass just in time to see Gina running for the bathroom holding her hand over her mouth. Was she sick? Was she going to throw up? Perhaps she caught what her son had and that was why she did not want to go to lunch with me or dinner. Or was it something else? Was she holding back a wail of tears? It was all so strange and unusual. I leaned against my car as I pretended to listen to the boss man rattle on about his favorite basketball game that he saw me play in, but I was not paying attention. I stared at that door inside waiting for Gina to emerge but she did not. I almost went back inside to see if she was alright but I could not do that to my pride. She had already pretty much kicked me out of her workplace, and I did not want to be kicked out twice by her. It would be too much to deal with. I said my goodbyes to the boss man and then got in my car and drove away. For the rest of the night I could not stop thinking about Gina. What the hell was she hiding? Why did she turn me down? I had not been turned down by a woman in years. It was all very unusual.

After the way Matthew had left my office with a cold, "See you at the wedding," I knew that meant that he had no intention of seeing me at any of the wedding events before the wedding. That made me both relieved and sad. Relieved so that I would not have to talk to him about Jared, but sad because I wanted to see him again. One of the wedding events, was at Melissa's parents house which was also Matthew's parents house. However this was to be a bridesmaid's champagne event, sort of like a bachelorette party only classier and during the day with finger sandwiches and elegant conversation. Therefore I was not too nervous about running into Matthew. I also did not think that he was staying at his parents’ home, even though he had purchased a very large house for them after he became a celebrity athlete. Still, I would assume that he would want to stay elsewhere in order to indulge in his player behaviors.
I sat with the rest of the bridesmaids and Melissa playing silly bridal games and eating finger sandwiches. I had to admit it was fun and it was one of the first social events that I had attended since I had dropped out of society ashamed and feeling unworthy of anything. So this was fun for me. After the party was over I stuck around to help clean up a bit. I was taking a tray of empty champagne glasses with lipstick stains on the rim into the kitchen when I heard, "Hey."
I turned to see Matthew outside the French doors lounging on a sundeck chair. As soon as I saw him my heart began to race. He looked absolutely delicious lying there in a casual way with his arms behind his head as though he was in a surrendering position. Thoughts of walking to him and straddling him crossed my mind at lightning speed. I shook those thoughts out of my mind and said, "Hey what are you doing hiding there?"
"I had to go somewhere while the womenfolk had their fun didnt I?" He laughed.
"I suppose so," I laughed as I took a few steps toward him and then I looked around the kitchen.
"Don't be shy, you can come out here," he said as he looked at me with a smile.
"Okay just for a bit," I said as I grabbed two glasses of champagne and walked to him handing him one.
    "Thank you," he said.
"You're welcome, are you staying here?" I asked as I took a drink and sat down on a lounge chair next to him.
"Yeah I am. I bought it so I guess I might as will stay here," he laughed
