are there on the table,” she said pointing to the end of the table against the wall. “Are you ready to order?”
“May we have a few minutes with the menu?” Andrew asked politely.
“Of course sir,” the waitress answered. She replaced her pad and pen in the apron pocket and moved on to the next table.
The menus opened and all eyes dug in to see what looked tasty.
“Beth,” a voice said interrupting the menu reading.
A smile lit Beth’s face when she looked up to see her cousin Cornflower standing in front of their booth with her daughter of one riding her hip.
“Cornflower, it’s so good to see you,” Beth said excitedly. Oh my goodness, look how much Kelly has grown. She’s so pretty. Pass her over so I can kiss those chubby round cheeks.”
“I’ll switch spots with you Beth,” Andrew said as he stood and held out his hand to help Beth out of the booth.
Beth scooped the baby from her cousin’s hip and began kissing her soft, pillowy cheeks. She held her in the air and made baby talk to her. Kelly laughed and reached out her chubby arms to Beth. Beth brought her close and embraced her in a tight hug.
“You are so pretty, I missed you so much,” Beth said to the baby using her baby voice. “Where’s Tommy?” Beth asked.
“He had to stop at the post office. He didn’t want us to sit in the car to wait for him. So, here we are,” Cornflower said.
“Why don’t I pull over a chair for you and the baby? You can join us until Tommy comes,” Richard offered.
“That would be nice. My husband may be a little bit in that post office,” she replied graciously.
Beth looked toward her cousin and introduced the guys since she already knew Lil.
“Cornflower is my favorite cousin and my idol. She’s a nurse also. That’s why I went to nursing school. I loved hearing her stories about her patients. Now I can’t wait to tell her mine once I start working,” Beth said.
“Not only that, she met her awesome husband on her job. He treats her like a princess,” Beth continued.
“Well, now Tommy has a new princess, Kelly,” Cornflower said.
“That just means that you now have queen status,” Richard said smiling at Cornflower.
“You are so romantic Richard,” Lil sighed.
“Mom is fixing a celebration dinner for me on Sunday. Do you think you and your husband can make it?” Beth asked.
“We would be happy to come,” Cornflower said happily.
“Mom will probably cook all night tonight. Dinner will be after church,” Beth said.
“We wouldn’t miss it. Oh, here’s Tommy now. Over here,” Cornflower said waving her arms over her head to Tommy.
“I can’t leave you and Kelly anywhere without you picking up strays,” Tommy laughed looking at the group.
“Hey Tommy it’s good to see you. Fatherhood must be agreeing with you,” Beth said.
Tommy, almost six feet and slender but muscular bent over to claim his princess from Beth. The baby happily kicked and giggled as she reached for her daddy’s face. Tommy held his princess close with one arm and reached for his wife’s hand with the other.
“It was great to run into you here but I don’t have much time to spend with my little family before I have to go to work,” Tommy said.
“Don’t let us hold you up,” Andrew said.
“I’ll see you Sunday. Cornflower will fill you in,” Beth said.
Richard waved to get the waitress’ attention. She appeared with her pleasant smile taking out her pad and pen from her apron pocket. “Are you ready to order?”
The food was delivered and all the friends began to eat.
“Beth sneaked a glance over at her cousins saying to her friends,
         “Cornflower is so lucky. She
