Melissa's Acceptance
that he had feelings for her.
But what were he and Luke going to do if she wanted to go home?

Chapter Three

Melissa was having trouble accepting any concept of what Luke and Damian had told her, and yet she felt as if every word they had spoken had been sincere. But she did believe what they had said. How could she refute what she’d seen with her own eyes?
“Talk to us, sweetheart,” Luke said, drawing her gaze. He looked worried and concerned and that made her feel a little more for him. What surprised Melissa more was the fact that she had any feelings at all for these two men. She’d only met them the previous evening and the time she’d spent with them was hazy. Physical attraction was one thing, but to feel what she did already was astounding.
She knew she should leave and go home, but the thought of doing so made her chest ache. Maybe it was because she was their mate and meant to be with them but, how could she accept being with them and caring for them after knowing them for such a short period of time?
Melissa reached up and explored the knot on the back of her head and wondered if she was, in fact, dreaming up everything. For all she knew she could be lying in a hospital bed hooked up to various machines and in a coma. God, what would Sara say if she told her what was going on? Would her sister look at her like she should be in a padded room, or would she laugh at her and tell her she should write a book?
Maybe she should call Sara and talk to her. If she was able to do that then surely she wasn’t dreaming all of this.
“I’m going to see if Tessa can come over,” Damian said as he frowned at Melissa.
She took no notice of him. She was too caught up in her own thoughts to even think of responding. If she wasn’t attracted to these men because of the mating musk—that is if any of this was even real—would she have given either Luke or Damian a second glance? And would they have looked at her at all, if it wasn’t for the way their wolves liked the way she smelled? The door closing didn’t bring her from her introspection and Melissa decided that she needed to talk to her sister.
Without giving Luke another thought, she looked around for her purse and then remembered the last time she had seen it was when she was in the kitchen. She hurried from the room and found her purse on a stool near the counter. Melissa dug around for her cell phone and then stared at the blank screen. After taking a deep breath, she activated her phone and saw that she had several messages from Sara already.
Where the hell are you? Why aren’t you answering your phone? Please call me as soon as you get this message, Mel.
Melissa hit speed dial one and Sara immediately answered. “Mel? Thank God. Where the hell have you been?”
    “Calm down, Sara, I’m fine.”
“Do you know how worried I’ve been about you? Don’t you dare tell me you’re fine when I’ve been worried sick about your well-being!”
“Sara.” Melissa sighed. “I’m sorry you were worried, but there was no need.”
“Of course there was. I tried calling you first thing this morning and when you didn’t answer, I went around to your place. I had all these images in my head of you being in a car accident or being kidnapped or something.”
Melissa felt bad that she had worried her sister. She’d been like a mother to her since she was a teenager, so of course she would be concerned for her. “Listen, Sara. I’m fine. I had a little accident and couldn’t drive last night.”
“What? What the hell do you mean by little accident? Did you crash your car? Oh my God, Mel. Are you okay?”
“Sara, will you please stop asking questions and listen to me?”
    Sara sighed. “Yeah, sorry.”
“I went to that inn I told you about.” Melissa explained what had happened and how she had been knocked unconscious and that the men who had hurt her were taking care of her while she recovered. She didn’t tell her about them being
