smell it."
"It's her other agenda I'm worried about. If I didn't know you as well as I do, I'd fear you were being played."
"I'm definitely not blind when it comes to her intentions. She wants a juicy story, that's for sure. But there's more. Lots more. I can feel it."
"Maybe I should take a peek at her background. Make sure there isn't something we should know about."
Mason shrugged again. "I know you're going to do what you think you have to no matter what I say. But I don't think my gut is wrong. Walking into Purgatory changed her."
Vincent laughed. "Of course it did. Purgatory changes everyone."
"Smart ass. You were a kinky fucking bastard long before you walked through those doors. We just gave you an outlet."
"And that's exactly my point. If you aren't careful, you could put this club and what you've built at risk. I'm not sure all the members are willing to be dragged through any public messes along with your family. Most of them don't even know you have family, other than your mother and stepfather."
"I hear you, Vincent. Loud and clear. You're just going to have to trust me. Rebecca is different. Have I ever steered you wrong before?"
    "All the damn time."
"It's called keeping you on your toes, Knight. Now let's go over these Vegas contracts before I head out for my next meeting. I’m serious about clearing my schedule this week so I can take that trip."
"I wouldn't have minded getting a first-hand look at these sweet rooms." Victor opened the folder that contained color photographs of the entire property, including the level of private suites specifically designed for the rich and kinky.
When one of them caught his eye, he picked it up and handed it to Victor. "I want this one for the entire week."
"Then I'll arrange it. I just hope you know what you're doing with the reporter. This situation makes me nervous."
Mason laughed. "Everything I do makes you nervous. You like everything neat, orderly and in its place. I've been waiting for more than a decade for that to happen and I think we both have to accept it isn't in the cards. This family is fucked up and it's about time to learn to live with it instead of change it."
"Impulsive trips to Vegas don't help." Vincent handed him a thick stack of documents. "You'll want to get these signed while you're there. Everything is marked for you."
Mason took the papers and nodded. "Not impulsive, Vincent. Decisive. I've given this contract with Rebecca a lot of thought. It's the best way to get it out of my system so we can get back to the important issues at hand."
Vincent smirked. "If that's what you think this is, then I wish you luck. You're going to need it."
Friend or not, Vincent was starting to get on his nerves. "I don't even want to know what you mean by that. Is there anything else I need to know before I leave?"
    "Use protection."
Mason shoved from behind his desk and stood. "You're fucking hilarious. It's a good thing I don't have the patience to find a new attorney. One who doesn't feel compelled to share his opinions on my personal life."
Vincent smiled. "You just want everyone to agree with you."
    "Damn right."
Vincent shrugged. "People in hell want ice water too. Guess you'll have to suck it up when I tell you to be careful."
"Duly noted." Not that his attorney's warnings changed a damned thing.
"Call me if you need anything before next week. If you change your mind, I’d be happy to go."
“I’m sure you would.” Mason nodded as Vincent spun on his heels and disappeared through the doorway.
He didn't really blame his friend for being cautious. If the circumstances were reversed and Vincent wanted to get involved with someone who had questionable motives, he'd be all over his ass. Not that it mattered at this point. He made a contractual commitment to the lovely Miss Adams and he'd move heaven and Earth to honor his word. He only hoped it didn't come back to bite him in the ass.
The phone on his desk buzzed
