eating. We’ve dressed them in hospital gowns until we received clothing.” They stopped in front of a small conference room door and waited for Passen to punch in the code.
“Have they given you a hard time?” She asked remembering Silas’ warnings and concerns. As much as she disliked the idea of any child being mistreated, she and Silas agreed not to put their family or the pack at risk. If she couldn’t get the answers they needed or sensed these two were not a threat, they’d remain in lock up until more information could be discovered.
“No. Neither one has said anything, which is strange. At this age they should be talking.”
Jasmine nodded. Silas believed the boy was the same ages as their kids. The girl seemed older. If that were the case not only could these two talk but they could also reason and explain where they had been.
“True. I’m going to have a chat with them.” She looked over her shoulder at the two younger women. “You have the bag with their clothes?”
Danielle held up one bag and Lilly another. “Got it. I wasn’t sure what size the girl would wear so I got a few different things,” Danielle said.
“Same here, I got a few sizes, one should fit,” Lilly said as Dr. Passen opened the door.
“Good.” Jasmine strode into the room and watched the two wrinkle their noses in her direction. They both inhaled again and looked at Danielle, who was a full-blood, and then at Lilly who was a half-breed. Jasmine wanted to laugh at the confused looks on their faces.
“Hello, I am Jasmine Knight, mate of La Patron, Silas Knight. You met him earlier.” She pulled out a chair, sat and waited for some clue they understood. “The tall man with the long, black hair.”
A flash of fear crossed Milfius’ face, while Sarita continued staring at her as if she were a puzzle to be dissected. Oh yeah, this one would be interesting. Silas pegged her correctly. Jasmine pulled another chair out and placed it in front of her.
“I have clothes for you to wear after you finish your meals,” she paused and looked at each, “after we have a talk.”
Sarita’s gray eyes darkened. Her long, black curly hair swung loosely around her face as she bared her teeth and growled. A second later Milfius joined her. It would’ve been funny if the disrespect hadn’t been so blatant. Danielle growled behind her, the sound filled the room. Jasmine knew she needed to calm her daughter-in-law down. She didn’t want the children hurt. “It’s okay Danielle,” she spoke over her shoulder while watching Sarita’s face pale.
Using a small amount of energy, Jasmine willed Sarita out of the chair. The child fought her body’s movements while her legs obeyed Jasmine’s command to come forward and sit in the chair facing her.
Danielle’s growl had scared Milfius to the point he covered his face and put his head down. Sarita’s eyes widened as she met Jasmine’s gaze. Their gaze’s clashed for a few seconds until the child dropped her head.
Pleased, that the imp had a strong sense of survival, Jasmine asked a question. “What’s your name?”
“Sarita.” The voice wasn’t one of a small child. Seems Silas pegged her as older correctly.
    “How old are you?”
Sarita’s head rose. “Old? What do you mean?”
“How long have you been living?” Jasmine floundered trying to think of another way to discover the age of the child.
“A few summers. I do not know for sure. Time gets mixed.”
    “Where were you coming from?”
    “Why?”
The question surprised Jasmine, she glanced at Lilly who stared at Sarita. “What is the name of your pack? Your Alpha?”
“Pack? Alpha? I don’t understand,” Sarita said frowning.
“She’s telling the truth, she doesn’t know the meanings,” Lilly said.
“Ulric. My sire is my Alpha. I miss him,” Milfius said looking at Jasmine. “I want to go home.”
Pleased with a name she’d heard before Jasmine turned to the girl who stared at Milfius as if
