windows nothing would be out of place, everything would look just the same.
Perhaps they misheard? Maybe it was military vehicles that shook the Earth? Burt what about those planes? Had the imagined everything?  Alex watched as Charlie lowered his bandana from his mouth and took a deep breath in.
Nothing happened, he did nothing but breath in and out. To him the air tasted no different. Alex dropped her own feeling suffocated, glad to have it off. The air was refreshing and just the right amount of cold that it felt good. Distracted by the enjoyment of fresh air the two almost missed the sudden motion just off to their side.
Without much thought Alex had pulled out her gun and raised it. Charlie made the same action but kept his weapon pointing down. Her stomach dropped at the sight of people moving towards them. It wasn’t a relief, something was wrong. Charlie however was excited at the thought of other people. Believing them to be just another group like theirs he began to jump up and down.
    “Hey! Over here!” He shouted.
Alex moved quickly forcing him to settle down. She pulled him towards her as she tucked her gun away.
    “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” She admitted.
The closer they got the more she knew something wasn’t right but that didn’t discourage him. He pulled himself free of her grasp. Looking at her as if she had lost her mind he turned back to the strangers and continued his antics.
Her mother always told her to listen to her instincts above all and she believed that more then ever now. She stepped in front of him again this time raising her machete. Holding it tightly like a child holding their favorite teddy bear.
Charlie only settled down when he saw the people in full clear. They looked normal except they were groaning and snapping their jaws. Their eyes were glowing blue, unholy blue. Alex raised her machete higher in warning but that didn’t faze these people…no, that didn’t feel right to call them that. They weren’t people they were something else. No fear or worry at the sight of the weapon only one thing shinned in their eyes. Hunger.
    “Run!” Alex said.
The white sheet fell to the ground like a flag waving in surrender as the two bolted down the street. Their legs taking them as fast as they could but not fast enough as a few feet away were not just one or two but a whole crowd turning to face them.
“Where the fuck did they come from? What the fuck are they?” Charlie groaned.
“I don’t know and don’t care. Fucking go!” Alex pushed him in another direction away from those things.
The two could hear the multiple footsteps following as they raced around the neighborhood. In an act of fear and stupidity Charlie stopped and pulled out his gun without much thought he clicked off the safety and fired causing a loud blast to echo in the quiet area.
The bullet hit one of them in the chest and it fell to the ground but that did not discourage the others. In fact it seemed to encourage them to keep going. Charlie set off another round as he attempted to run but fear had him stumbling.
“Stop shooting! It’s drawing their attention!” Alex smacked his arm down silencing him for now.
Alex stopped and picked up a couple of heavy rocks. Facing the small group she tossed the rock far above their heads and past them. The loud clanking sound from whatever the rock hit distracted the group enough that some wandered away. She did it again thinning out the line.
With only a few after them now they continued on hopping a short metal fence into the backyard of some stranger’s home. They stopped to catch their breaths and lean against the paneling of the house. Their chest raised and fell in rhythm.
“We have to get back to the bunker. I think if we go this way were only a few houses down.” Alex rubbed her face as she looked around. Her gaze landing on Charlie and his trademark sneer.
“Are you shitting me? We have to get out of here!” He yelled.
    “Keep
