Holly's Crush: The Complete Trilogy
staying with me temporarily while her home is getting fumigated. It was all last minute and she didn’t have anywhere else to go on such short notice. I just can’t have a party with her there. Please understand?”
“I was so looking forward to this.” Lexi actually whined.
“I know!” Amy shouted. “Holly can have the party!”

Shit! Shit! Shit! I am sitting here trying to figure out what I have gotten myself into tonight. I wasn’t too happy with Amy putting me on the spot like that. I don’t have any plans next weekend, but I don’t exactly want to host a party either. My place is too small. Amy assured me that I wouldn’t have to do a thing. She said she would come over early and get everything ready. She just has a small list of guests – nothing too extreme. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal, she says. HA! Right now, I doubt that. I guess one good thing is that I won’t be sitting alone in my apartment drinking wine and eating chocolate and fantasizing about some guy that I want wrapped around me. Never mind that the whole point of me moving was to actually be alone. Why don’t I seem to know what I want?

“I’m so glad you called me,” Kami said, snapping her gum. “I feel like we have this connection, you know?”
Jack had invited her out to dinner again, but this time it was at his place. He wanted another chance to prove that he still had it; he was not about to let a fine-ass woman get away without at least one night of hot sex. Besides, he rationalized; she couldn’t have been that bad the other night. He hadn’t had the best day at work, what with the boss riding his ass to finish those reports and all that. Anything would have made him annoyed after his shitty day.
Two hours later and he took that all back.
At least dinner was great; he’d grilled out a couple steaks, made baked potatoes and a cold cucumber salad (which, incidentally, made him think of Holly). He ate more than he intended and probably outdid all his hard work he put in at the gym that morning. Although, all the beer he drank (he lost count after five) probably did the most damage. He normally didn’t drink that much anymore. That was one part of his past that he was more than happy to leave behind. Sure, he still enjoyed a drink or two, but he never allowed himself to become drunk anymore.
Why he pounded so many down tonight was a mystery. Maybe Kami really was that maddening. It wasn’t just her incessant chattering – she was also impossible to follow in a conversation and she made his head hurt.
“And, so, my BFF told me I just had to buy these shoes – aren’t they killer? – but they were soooo expensive, you know?” Kami said. “But then I figured, you only live once, you know? I really did have to buy them. But then I would have these awesome shoes and nothing to wear them with, so I just had to buy a new dress too. What do you think?” Kami stood up and gave a little twirl.
Jack opened his mouth to respond, only to shut it again. Kami droned on. “Well, I love it and who cares that I won’t be able to afford food for the rest of the month.” She giggled. “It’ll keep me skinny enough to actually fit in the dress, so that’s a bonus, and you only live once, you know?”
Yes, I know. That is only the millionth time she’s said that tonight.
    DING-DONG
The sound of the doorbell rang, cutting Kami off mid-sentence, saying God knows what. Jack opened the door only to find Holly standing there, looking like a tall glass of cool water compared to what he was dealing with inside.
“Oh, hey Holly. What can I do for you?” I know what I’d like to do for you…and to you.
Her heart inflated at the sight of him. “I was just wondering if…” She paused as she looked past Jack and noticed her sitting on the couch, inspecting her red dragon-lady nails. Holly’s heart deflated. “Um…actually, I was just wondering if I could borrow a cup of sugar.”
