    As she walked to her bunk, she realized who
was sleeping right under her bed. Ben! Fuck! With her luck, she
would fall right onto him if she tried to climb up the bunk. She
looked over at Alex, snoozing away in her own bed and contemplated
sleeping next to her friend. Knowing how jittery her friend was,
that was probably worse and she might wake the whole room – or the
neighborhood up.
    Ben stirred slightly and Kelsey waited with
baited breath for his eyes to open, but he merely turned over and
away from her. Now or never, she thought. She grabbed the small
ladder, hoisted herself up into her bunk, then crawled under the
covers and fell fast asleep.
    A few hours later, Kelsey’s eyes shot open,
the noise in the dorm waking her up. She looked at her watch and
realized it was 10 am. Crap! She turned away from the wall and when
she turned towards the room, her eyes collided with deep blue
eyes.
    “ Late night?” Ben was so
tall that his head was right at her bunk’s level.
    “ Uh, yeah” she
squeaked.
    “ Uh-huh” he said nothing
more and turned away.
    Kelsey could swear the look he gave her was
almost accusatory. She swallowed a lump in her throat. Maybe she
was imagining it; at least she hoped she was. She felt slightly
angry. You are a grown woman, Kelsey, she told herself. You can
sleep with whomever you want to and it’s nobody’s business!
However, Kelsey couldn’t forget that look in his blue eyes and a
tight ball formed at the bottom of her stomach. She got up, got
down, and headed towards the bathroom to clean up and get ready for
brunch.
    The moment Kelsey strode into the common
room, Alex practically jumped from her seat and bounded towards
her. “Hey you, sex goddess!” she said in a whisper.
    “ Shhhhhh!” Kelsey scanned
the room, searching for Ben. Where the heck was he, she
thought.
    “ Tellmetellmetellme!” Alex
said excitedly. “I’m your best friend and I want – no – deserve all
the dirty details!”
    Kelsey laughed, forgetting about Ben and
that morning. “Well, if you must know…”

    The two best friends spent the day going
around Bangkok, checking out the temples and palaces, eating
delicious street food, shopping for souvenirs, chatting, and
catching up. By the time the sun was setting in the city, Kelsey
and Alex decided to call it a day and head back to the hotel.
    As Kelsey approached her bunk, she was
surprised to see that the bed under hers was stripped down and
empty. She didn’t realize Ben had already left, and she felt
slightly disappointed. Alex came up behind her and saw the empty
bed. “Hey, that’s weird!”
    “ What’s weird?”
    “ Well,” Alex said
thoughtfully, “Ben told me that he was going to be in Bangkok at
least another week.”
    Kelsey shrugged. “Maybe he changed his
mind.”
    “ Yeah,” Alex said, putting
her stuff on her bunk. “Travellers and backpackers tend to go with
the wind.”
    Kelsey remained silent.
Did he leave because...? She shook her head and let go of that
thought from her head. She would never see him again and it
didn’t matter.
    “ Hey, Alex, let’s go grab
dinner and head to the bar with the others?”
    Alex smiled at her friend. Kelsey, who
normally wanted to stay home and never mingle with people outside
her circle, was finally coming out of her shell.
    “ Sure, sweetie! There’s
this awesome bar with beer pong just around the corner!”
    They begin to head off, making their way
towards another day of adventure and, Kelsey hoped, another chance
to forget about the past and enjoy all that the world had to offer
her.
    “ I could really get used
to this type of life…” She smiled as she thought of the
possibilities and looked forward to her next adventure.
