table and took a quick drink. “So what’s up?”
    “I got something big…I think.” Blake had to put out the
disclaimer. He didn’t know if Crystal was telling the truth, didn’t know for
sure there was any police involvement. It could all be some story she made up
to try to get out of trouble. His gut didn’t think that was the case but hell,
it could be mostly his cock wanting to believe in her innocence.
    “My buddy Jack found the person bringing in all the cocaine
for the Mohab ring. She claims she was forced into doing it and that there are
cops involved.”
    When he told the story to Mason it sounded a lot lamer than
when she told Blake. How many crooks made up crazy stories to get out of
trouble with not an ounce of truth involved? Almost all of them.
    “I told her we could probably offer her immunity if she
helped us catch the cops and whoever else near the top we can get to like we
got approved earlier.”
    “Sounds good but do you really trust her?” Mason raised his
eyebrows and then shook his head and took another sip of beer. “Is she good
looking?”
    Did Mason see something he didn’t? It was kind of a random
question.
    “Yeah. She’s good looking.” No reason to lie about it.
    “Hmmm.” Mason studied him. “What do you need me to do for
you?”
    “I feel as if this needs to be kept secret. I don’t know if
it involves people in our agency so I’m going to be going off the grid and I
think it’s best if you use as few people as possible and only guys you really
trust to get the surveillance we’re going to need.”
    “It does make sense that law enforcement is involved in the
Mohab ring. They are growing like crazy, taking over territory that had never
budged before, and every time we get close they find out somehow and switch
things up.” Mason gave the little bit of agreement Blake needed.
    “She’s set to drop off the backpack tomorrow morning
sometime so I’m going to bug it and go with her to the drop site, see if I can
identify the guy.” Blake didn’t have everything completely planned out and he
didn’t like that. He liked to be meticulous, know exactly what he was going to
do and how he was going to do it, but some situations called for playing by the
seat of a guy’s pants and this was one of those times.
    “Here’s her number, record every call in and out. I bought a
burner phone at a gas station on the way over here. My number’s the bottom
one.” Blake handed Mason the jagged, half a sheet of paper with the numbers
scribbled across it in black ink. “I’ll call you tomorrow and let you know
what’s going on.”
    He didn’t know where this was going to go, what he was going
to need from Mason, but by tomorrow he should have something. He better have
something.
    “Sounds good.” Mason slammed down the last of his beer and
set the empty bottle on the table. “Stay safe, bro.”
    “I will.” Jack toyed with his still half-full beer on the
table. He watched Mason walk out the door and waited a couple minutes before he
made his exit, anxious to get back to Crystal.
    She was alone in that apartment and there were people out
there who thought she had a million dollars’ worth of cocaine in her
possession. They wouldn’t likely kill her without finding out where it was and
right now it was safe in the trunk of his car, in a secret locked compartment
made for things like this. But he sure as hell didn’t want to leave her alone
any longer than necessary.
    Blake jumped in his car and even squealed the tires a little
as he sped away from the bar and back toward Crystal’s house.
    He locked the door behind him when he left and didn’t have a
key to her apartment but that wasn’t going to keep him out for long. He took
