âWellâ¦we still have to get the stuff to put on the web,â Lisa continued.
âWeâll do our best tricks on video, have a few still pictures, put up information about the three of us,â I said.
âThen we still need to get a video camera andâ¦â Lisa stopped mid-sentence and looked at Nevin. âWell?â
âI have state-of-the-art digital camera and video equipment,â he said.
I tried hard to keep a smirk off my face. âAny other questions?â
Lisa didnât say anything, but I knew she was thinking it through some more. If there was some fault, sheâd find it and bail. She really didnât want to be involved with me right now.
âAnd thereâs money to be made doing this?â she asked.
âBig money,â I said.
She turned to Nevin. âIs he telling the truth?â
âOf course Iâm telling the truth!â I protested.
âExcuse me for doubting your word.â She turned back to Nevin. âWell?â
He nodded. âLots of money if the site has things people want to see and there are sponsors.â
âDo you have sponsors?â she asked me.
âNo, not yet.â
âThen how are we supposed to make money?â she demanded.
âIf we have a site and enough people go on it, then we can attract sponsors. Thatâs the way it works.â
Nevin nodded in agreement, and she didnât argue.
âAnd just how will all this money be split?â Lisa asked.
âWeâd all have a share,â I said.
âSince thereâs four of us, I guess that share is twenty-five percent each,â Lisa suggested.
âI was thinking that since it was my idea, and I am the best skater, that I should get a bigger share.â
âThat is so typical of you!â Lisa exclaimed.
âBut it
is
my idea.â
âTell you what. Now that we all know about the idea, how about the three of us, me and Nevin and Wally, do it without you, and we can get one third of the money each.â
âYou canât do that!â
âOf course we could. Wally and me can do the tricks, and Nevin here is the one who knows all the computer stuff. I donât knowwhy we need you!â She paused. âI know Iâve certainly found out that
I
donât need you.â
âThatâs not fair!â I protested.
âLots of things arenât fair! Iâve learned that the hard way!â
âCome on, Lisa,â Wally said. âHeâs rightâ¦this time.â
Lisa stood up. âSplit it into quarters or
I
split.â
âSo youâre in?â
She nodded. âFor twenty-five percent.â
I nodded. A quarter of something was better than half of nothing.
âThen Iâm in,â she said.
âMe too,â Wally agreed.
âIâd do it for nothing,â Nevin said.
âYouâll do it for a quarter share of the profits,â Lisa barked. âSo when do we start.â
âHow about right after school?â I asked.
âI have to go home and change. Weâll meet at five behind the Super Save.â
I wanted to protest. Who did she think she was, acting like she was the leader? âSure,â I agreed.
Lisaâs lips curled into a little smirk. She turned and walked away. We all watched her cross the cafeteria and disappear out the door.
âShe really must have liked you at one time,â Nevin said.
âWhat?â
âShe really must have liked you before.â
âWhy would you think that?â I asked. There was nothing sheâd done that would make any-body think that she had ever liked me.
âFor somebody to hate you that much she must have really cared for you, and then you did something bad.â
I turned to Wally.
âDonât look at me!â he said, holding up his hands. âI didnât tell him anything. I told you the guyâs a genius.â
âWe had
