existed in his world except for this screenplay.
Veronica walks down the street, limping a bit because she was just in a helicopter crash. A pair of zombies runs toward her.
âFast zombies or slow zombies?â Justin had asked last night, early in the story development discussion.
âSlow zombies,â said Gabe.
âFast zombies,â said Bobby.
âSlow zombies are scarier.â
âNo, theyâre not. Fast zombies are scarier because theyâre fast.â
âFast zombies arenât realistic.â
â Zombies arenât realistic.â
âIf you were a corpse that came back to life, you wouldnât be moving fast,â Gabe insisted. âIt doesnât make any sense. Decomposed muscles are slow.â
âYou can just walk away from slow zombies,â said Bobby. âJust la-di-da, strolling along. Oops, that one is kind of close. Iâd better veer slightly to the left. Uh-oh, thereâs another one. I suppose Iâll have to shove it over.â
âUntil youâre overwhelmed by their sheer numbers,â said Gabe. âThatâs the whole point of zombies. They donât seem like a huge threat until suddenly youâre surrounded and thereâs no way to escape. Youâre doomed.â
âYouâre more doomed if youâre surrounded by fast zombies.â
â Shaun of the Dead has slow zombies.â
â Zombieland has fast zombies.â
âLucio Fulciâs Zombie has slow zombies.â
â 28 Days Later has fast.â
âThose arenât zombies. Those are the infected.â
âTheyâre zombies.â
âTheyâre the infected.â
âStop being such a zombie snob.â
âIâm not being a snob. Iâm being accurate.â
â Dawn of the Dead has fast zombies.â
âNo, Dawn of the Dead has slow zombies.â
âIt has fast zombies,â said Bobby. âI watched it last week. Weâll put in the Blu-ray.â
âWhich one are you talking about?â
â Dawn of the Dead .â
âNo, which version?â
âIâm talking about the remake.â
âWell, Iâm talking about the original.â
âThe remake was better.â
âGet out of my house,â said Gabe. âI mean Justinâs house.â
âIâm allowed to express my opinion. You canât tell me that if you were walking down the sidewalk and somebody said, âHey, dude, Iâm going to release a dozen zombies to chase after you. Would you prefer that I release the fast-moving variety or the slow-moving variety?â you wouldnât request the slow-moving ones.â
âThatâs real life. This is a movie.â
âYouâre the one who was talking about realism.â
âOkay,â said Gabe. âIf weâre going to try to make the greatest zombie movie ever, then we need to pay homage to the original classic, Night of the Living Dead . Therefore, we need to go with slow zombies. Case closed.â
âThe first zombie in Night of the Living Dead chased after Barbara in her car, so technically it had both fast and slow zombies. Ha! Logic fail!â
âThatâs it!â said Justin. âWeâll have the best of both worlds. Our movie will have both fast and slow zombies. Guaranteed mass appeal!â
âWhat about talking zombies?â asked Bobby.
âNo talking zombies,â said Justin and Gabe, almost simultaneously.
â Return of the Living Dead had talking zombies.â
âShut up,â Justin and Gabe said.
Veronica watches the zombies, her expression unreadable. But then sheâ¦smiles.
VERONICA
Sorry, guys. Not today.
She takes out a machine gun [ Note to self: Figure out where she was keeping the machine gun. ] and opens fire. The zombiesâ heads turn to goopy mush, and they drop to the ground. [ Note to self: It would be cool if the mush formed the
