few months ago.”
    She
couldn’t believe he remembe red the lasagna she had cooked some time ago. “I can do that. I think I have everything but the
mozzarella, which I can get any time.”
    They
had the kitchen cleaned up and the dishwasher loaded, so they drifted back into
the living room to the couch. “Let’s start the movie.
We might be able to stay awake through to the end, could be tough after that
meal though.” Luckily, she had purchased a sectional sofa with a lounger
attached. There was enough room for them both to get comfortable side-by-side
to watch t he movie if he’d relaxed and wanted to get
closer to her.
    After
she hit play, she swung her legs up on the lounger, offering him the spot next
to her. She was a little surprised when he readily accepted. He slid up
alongside her and fitted his body to hers , his
shoulder creating a nice pillow for her head as the movie started.
    They
seemed to fit perfectly into each other. No one had ever matched her like Ash.
He reached up, tu rned
her face toward him ,
and said, “You’re thinking too hard again, just enjoy th e moment and the movie.” He chu ckled, giving her a quick, soft kiss on the nose.
    “How
do you know when I’m thinking about things?”
    “I’ve
told you I can hear the gears in your head turning. Seriously, your body
language changes, and you feel different. I don’t
know how to explain the difference any other way.”
    “I
think you know me too well.”
    He
chuckled and went back to watching the movie.
    Shortly
after he pulled her in closer, his breathing evened out. He’d apparently fallen
asleep. She didn’t want to loo k, to move and possibly
wake him. The moment was too right to mess up by disturbing him.
    He
was keeping her warm a nd
comfy wrapped up in his arms. A little while later her eyelids began to dr oop , but s he stayed awake long enough to see the rooftop scene in the movie. The n the next thing she knew, Ash was whispering in her ear, “Wake
up, sleepyhead. We missed the last half of the movie.”
    She
looked down to see their hands clasped with their fingers entwined . She pulled them to her chest before
she asked, “Wh at time is it?”
“Early, about four a.m.” His thumb brushed back and forth lazily
over her inner wrist.
    She
never realized how sensitive that little patch of skin could be. Not wanting
things to end yet, but knowing he probably wanted to leave, she said, “Guess we’ll have to set another date to finish the DVD.”
    “Sorry,
guess I relaxed a little too much. We could go back to sleep and watch the rest
of the show in the daylight. Unless you’d rather I went home.”
    “Are
you kidding? I’ve been trying to find ways to keep
you here.”
    He
pushed her to her back and looked her in the eye. “All you have to do is say
stay.”
    He’d
pulled his hair back with the leather tie again. Reaching up with her free
hand, she laid her palm against his stubble-roughened cheek and watch ed as his tongue slid slowly over his soft, full bottom
lip. She looked up at his eyes before she could think any harder about his
mouth and kissing him until they were both breathless. So overwhelmed by the
emotion she saw swirling in Ash’s sparkling, bri ght
blue eyes, she could only whisper, “Stay.”
    A
bone deep sigh rushed from his lips. She hadn’t noticed the tension in his arms
until it disappeared on his release of breath. “Thank you, God.”
    Her
chuckle seemed loud in the quiet room. “Did you seriously think I would ask you to leave?” Not giving him time to
respond to her question, she ran her thumb across his bottom lip before she
kissed him. She gently brushed her lips over his then back again, playfully
teasing a deeper kiss from him. He took control from
her, nibbled at the corner of her mouth, and took advantage of her exhale,
sliding his tongue into her mouth to glide along her own.
    The
sectional lounger suddenly seemed too small for the two of them. His hand slid
up under her
