I’m finally ready to settle down or if she is just perfect for me. My dad always said I would know within three seconds of meeting her, like he did with mom. There was an ache in my heart for a second as I flung my legs over the side of the bed. I sat up, rubbed my fingers through my messy hair and stood. I forgot I never got dresses after I got out of the shower so I stood in my cold bedroom completely naked. I heard a knock on the door, grabbed my robe and walked into the living room. I knew it was Ben, one of our pledges was here with me for the day.
I opened the door, motioned for him to enter and turned and walked into the kitchen for my already brewed coffee. I picked up my black mug filled it with my powdered creamer, and pushed a mug to the side for Slater, just as he walked in the door.
“Hey Prez, anything specific planned today?”
I gave him a look and shook my head. “Nothing on the books today, but I have a date tonight so I’ll be getting that set up. But by all means pledge if you have something better to do don’t let me stand in your way.” He started stammering before he finally got the words out.
“I-I-I didn’t mean it like that Prez, I was just wondering if we had anything planned.”
I shook my head and walked through the swinging door into the living room. Sat down and turned on the news. Just as the headlines came across the station I yelled for Slater.
“Grab my cell from my room, I forgot it when your dumbass knocked instead of using the key you already have.”
I heard him rushing through the hallway, and when I turned around again he was standing there with my cell held out towards me.
“Thank you, get your coffee and join me.”
I looked for any kind of texts or missed calls, hoping one would be from Rebecca, but I wasn’t so lucky. I did have one from Sgt. Green from SCMPD though. Watch the news, shit is going to hit the fan. You need to figure this shit out.
I turned up the TV and waited for the headlines to come on again. WTF is the only thing I could think as I wrapped my head around the news.
14 year old prostitute found dead in the Oglethorpe Mall parking lot. Right now it’s only speculation of who killed her but it is still believed to be part of the outlaw biker gang The Outlaw Kings. No one is certain but I’m sure we will know more when her identity and coroner’s report are filed.
I was so angry I was shaking. I handed my cup to Ben for him to get me more coffee, picked up my cell and texted Hammer.
We need to talk. Right fucking now. I’m home, just stop by.
I waited on a response and immediately he replied.
I’m parking now, I was on my way.
I looked up as I heard his bike. Fifteen seconds later he was walking in the door. He could see the anger on my face from the couch and tentatively approached. Who would have thought that a three hundred pound man would be scared of me. But here we are.
“I don’t want your same old shit about not having anything to do with this. I talked to Margaret at 4am and she said you didn’t fucking come home. Here’s what’s going to happen. Ben here is going to be your fucking shadow. If you ditch him, or harm him in anyway, I will bring your resignation and shame to the table, and we both know how that will end. If you have anything to do with this I swear you better fucking stop. Or so fucking help me I will fucking skin you alive! They’re fucking children you sick fuck!”
He nodded and I got closer to make my point.
“Do you fucking understand what I’m saying?”
He shook his head in response, and kept staring at my hand in my robe.
I kept my hand on my pistol in the pocket of my robe, I was itching to put a bullet in his head but I can’t without a vote. But rest assured there will be a vote next time I get to the table.
“Get the fuck out!”
Ben and Hammer walked out the front door as I made my way back to the bedroom to get dressed. I never expected to tell Hammer he’s a dead man in a
