chest level, I shoved the blunt bottom into his fake blue heart, and the bell rang.  My father had taught me this trick when I had just started training.  I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I figured it was worth a try.
“ No way is this over. That is not fair. It wasn’t the blade of her scythe. It’s not...  No!”  John fumbled.
“ The rules do not state that it has to be the blade of the scythe. If any part of the scythe is inserted into the heart, the soul will be collected. This match is over.  Cendall is the winner,” Herald explained to John as he grabbed my hand and thrust it into the air, announcing my victory.  The crowd erupted in a conflicting roar of cheers and boos.  Oh well, I wasn’t going to win over everyone.
“ But, she didn’t...I was expecting something like a flip or...no, it was too quick...ahh,” John said from behind me as he stormed off.  Nothing like being a sore loser , I wanted to shout but held back.  Herald released my hand, and I walked over to the stands to once again speak with my father.
“ Oldie but goodie,” Dad said, as I approached him.
“ Yeah, I figured something simple would work this time since, during my last match, I’d pulled out something big,” I said as a proud smirk formed on my lips.
“ He thought you were going to pull out something big, too.  That’s why you never assume anything!”  My dad said as he gave me a high-five.  “Head back to your bench now and rest, Cendall.  Drake’s match might take more time, and the more time you have to clear your head and strategize, the better.  I’ll see you next round.  Good luck.”
“ Thanks, Dad,” I said as I headed back to my bench, watching as the crowd behind my dad looked disappointed.  They had hoped for handshakes and to speak with me again, but that could wait for the next round.  Dad was right—I definitely needed as much time as possible to clear my head and ready myself for Drake, who surely would be winning his current match soon.
The door to my bench was open as I walked past.  Once inside, I closed the stone door.  I took a deep breath, laid down on the cement bench, and let out a laugh.  John had been easier than Eric!  Who would have guessed that?  Remembering the look on John’s face, I let out another laugh.
“ I wouldn’t laugh quite yet,” Dave said, as I jumped up at the sound of his voice.
    “ How the hell…”
“ I got in as soon as the fight ended.  I knew your dad would want you to come in here and rest before the next one.  Did you see the look on John’s face when you pulled that on him?  He was so pissed, I loved it,” he said.
“ He wasn’t expecting something so simple.”  I sat up to face him.
“ Thank you for sneaking in here.  I’m not one for sitting in silence to concentrate.”  If Drake’s match lasted awhile, I knew I would have started thinking about other things.
“ That’s why I’m here—to keep you focused on this match.”
“ Thank you, Dave,” I said.
“ Sure thing. Do you know what you’re going to do with Drake yet?  Like which move or whatever?  I have a few ideas that I wanted to give you.”  I was so grateful that Dave had snuck in to talk to me.  I hadn’t even begun to think about what I would do with Drake’s match.  I had been enjoying the memory of John’s face too much.  A long time ago, I promised myself I would silence these boys one day.  That day was today, and it felt good.  Just one more...
“ I have no idea.  I can’t pull either of the previous ones, and I’m drawing a blank to be honest.  Drake is just so different.  He doesn’t really have a weakness like the rest of these guys.”
“ Yeah, he’s not really going to fall for anything that I can think of.  I think your best bet would be either high strikes and dives, or runs and strikes,” Dave said, and I nodded in agreement.
“ That’s what I was thinking, too, but he’ll be expecting that,” I
