couldn’t take anymore, Chris cried out, and his body tensed, his dick pulsating with his release in her pussy.
He collapsed on top of her, and their labored breathing was the only sound in the room. The afterglow lifted slowly, but it wasn’t long before she came to her senses and realized what she’d just allowed to happen with her best friend.
Not only had she compromised their friendship, but she’d given all of herself to him. Trust, submission, and her body just wrapped up nice and neat in a little package for the taking. Crap.
The ties on her wrists thumped when she tried to bring her arms down. She wanted him off of her, her clothes on, and to run out into the darkness of the night. Her mind still buzzed with alcohol enough to prevent a full-on panic, so she cleared her throat.
“Chris?” God, her voice sounded like a frog being strangled.
    “Mmm?”
“Do you think you can untie me now? I really want these things off of me.”
At first she thought he was going to ignore her, but he eventually groaned and lifted himself off to the side. A few jerky movements later one hand was free, and she whipped off the blindfold as fast as possible.
She didn’t expect to see Chris’s face staring down at her, his eyes soft and adoring. Her heart swelled, and she wanted to embrace that feeling. But she couldn’t. She wouldn’t let herself. Shit.
The half-grin she mustered must have looked as fake as it felt because he frowned. “It’s late. I should go.”
    His frown deepened. “Why?”
Her mind scrambled for anything. “I have to work tomorrow.”
The frown changed into a thin line. “The bar doesn’t even open until mid-afternoon. You need to do better than that, Hannah.”
Chris finished untying her other wrist, turned to sit with his back against the headboard, and pulled a sheet into his lap. He stared ahead and didn’t turn to look at her as she rolled onto her side, grabbed the towel from the floor, wrapped it around her body and stood next to the bed.
“I just need to go, Chris. This was really … fun. I’m glad we did it, and now we know. We’ll never wonder what it’s like to be with each other that way.”
He winced as she spoke but didn’t respond. She waited to see if he would yell or beg her to stay. He didn’t.
“Okay. I’ll see you around. Maybe tomorrow?” God, she wished she hadn’t sounded so hopeful.
Chris gave her one curt nod and turned to look at the opposite wall. She gripped the towel tighter and fought the urge to stay. Soothing his fragile ego would only confuse him.
It would be better for him if she left. That’s what she told herself as she stepped into her clothes as fast as possible and ran out to her car with tears streaming down her face.

Chapter Four

Chris pounded his fist against the bed. The soft sound and vibration through the mattress coils served as a pathetic reward for his attempt to work out his frustration. He should never have let Hannah walk out the door.
She’d done this the entire time he’d known her. Let a guy in for one night and then walk away. If she saw him again, she’d act like she never knew him at all. And those guys seemed to be okay with that.
He’d thought that getting her to trust him enough to make love to every part of her body would have made some kind of difference. Damn. He was a fool.
Everything about Hannah screamed temporary. Except their friendship. Maybe that’s why he thought he’d have a chance in hell of breaking down those barriers she kept solid and strong.
He knew none of the other guys had stood a chance. The last thing he wanted to do was end up like one of them, especially since he had so much invested in Hannah.
Now he was one of those guys. He didn’t want to lose her. He’d loved her the minute they’d met. The reality of sleeping with her had been better than anything he’d dreamed of, and he’d done a hell of lot of dreaming over the years.
He wanted Hannah to be his girlfriend.
