going dry.
“No, only Carlos,” he softly says.
“Oh, good,” I breathe – Then something comes to me...a
conversation....? Then I remember it. “Tristan’s hiring a wedding planner,” I
say.
“What!” Rob bellows. “Well you can tell him to cancel it,”
he scoffs. “Honestly woman! How could you let him do that to me?”
I shrug then regret it, that hurt. “Rob, you buggered off, I
couldn’t get hold of you. I couldn’t talk to you about all the...” I stop and
shake my head. What’s the point? “Do you want to be my wedding planner?”
I ask.
“Of course,” he snorts, rolling his eyes at me. “Who else
would you choose?” he bites.
“No one,” I say, smiling up at him, feeling totally
relieved. Rob will sort it all and it will be magical, I know it will.
I involuntarily yawn, which hurts like hell – Ok this ‘everything
hurts thing’ better stop soon!
“You really are out of it,” he says, I nod my head in
agreement.
“Think it’s the painkillers, I keep falling asleep,” I
grumble.
Rob leans over to me and kisses my cheek. “Ok, you sleep
sunshine. I’ll look through more wedding magazines...Oh, we’re going to have so
much fun!” he says with animated glee, a slight chuckle escapes me – Ouch, don't
laugh Coral!
I grab hold of him. “Rob,” I take a deep breath. “Thank you,
for everything...for being my best friend, for putting up with me,” I stop and
sniff. I'm so glad he’s ok.
“Coral,” Rob leans down so he’s inches from me, wide black
eyes to sleepy coral blue. He clutches my hand in his again then starts to
choke up – Oh Rob! No, don't cry for me!
“Don’t ever do that to me again,” he croaks. “I...I was so
scared. For a moment, when you were down in surgery, I....I thought I would
never see you again...” he breaks off and sniffs loudly.
“Now you know how I felt when you disappeared,” I retort.
Rob looks guilty for like a nanosecond. “Yes, but I didn’t
have some lunatic trying to kill me,” he argues.
“And I didn’t know that she was a lunatic!” I argue back. “I
was just as worried about you, you kept me in the dark’ – “You kept me in the
dark too, and you didn’t tell anyone!” he interrupts shouting at me.
“You weren’t here! How was I supposed to tell you Rob?” I shout
back.
“True, but you should have told someone,” he retorts.
“Rob, we could argue about this all day. We were both wrong,
you should have told me what was going on, and I should have told you, we both
fucked up! Now can I go back to sleep?” I huff in frustration.
“You’re right. And yes you can,” he chuckles.
“It’s not funny!” I bark, although I can't help the smile
that starts to spread across my face.
“Maybe we should call you Wonder Woman?” he laughs.
“Rob!” I chuckle.
“Or one of those female characters from X-Men...I don't know
the names,” he says shaking his head, tittering away to himself.
“Stop it!” I scold, laughing even harder.
“Or Superwoman?” He adds, really chuckling now.
“Was there ever a Superwoman?” I question, trying not to
laugh.
Rob cocks his head to the side. “I have no idea!” he laughs.
“Ooh, I have another one. Maybe you should become a private investigator with a
badge and a gun!”
“Rob!” I really start laughing now, and it really fucking
hurts!
“Yeah, I could see you doing that,” he chuckles in a high
pitched tone. He’s so funny!
“But seriously Coral, you jumped in front of him, took a
bullet for him? What in god’s name possessed you to do such a thing? It’s
supposed to be the man saving the woman you know, not the other way around.”
My heart instantly sinks to the pit of my stomach as I
recall the event – Susannah looking so deranged, the gun in her hand, the very
thought of losing Tristan - “Hey,” Rob soothes. “Don't look so worried. I’m
sorry I mentioned it, it’s just, well, it’s just about the bravest thing I’ve
ever known
