been chatting
away but suddenly both men fell silent when they noticed her standing there.
The uncomfortable silence continued. She’d been warned
that once guys had what they wanted, you were history.
“I’ll
just get dressed and make my way back to my parent’s cabin,” she finally said.
Nick
stood. “I’d ask you to stay the night and stick around for breakfast but I
might get tempted to have sex and I guess by now you might be on your cycle.”
Oh yeah, could
have happened sooner than we ’d thought.
“I
have to get going too,” said Lucas. He stood up. “Thanks for that great chili,
e-mail that recipe.”
“Sure
will,” said Nick.
Maisey
headed to the living room where her clothes sat on a chair by the fire. Both men were now behind her. She let the
towel drop, suddenly conscious of her naked body. She put her clothes on so
quickly she was sure she’d put both legs in just one
opening of her panties, but she didn’t care, she’d hobble out of here if she
had to.
“I
can walk you back to your parent’s cabin. My truck isn’t far from there,” said Lucas.
“No,
I’ll be fine. I’m a big strong wolf when I have to be.”
“Wouldn’t
think of letting you walk through the woods on your own. In fact, you either
say yes or I carry you over my shoulder,” he responded
Holy
shit, she loved the sound of that. Him carrying her for the
second time today. The big alpha slinging her over his
shoulder and trekking through the woods. Definitely mate material.
“We
might all see one another at Dane’s wedding,” said Nick, walking both of them
to the door.
It
would be great seeing them again, but her
parents would be there. They still kept with the ancient shifter tradition of
communicating through their minds and were experts at reading other’s thoughts
when they had to. What if they read all three of their minds and found out
about the threesome and the sex on the homemade quilt?
“Yeah,
that’s possible,” was all she could say.
“Night
Nick,” said Lucas.
“Take
care both of you.”
A
tear ran down her cheek as they made their way down the path from Nick’s cabin.
If she did get pregnant, she only had
herself to blame. No yoga studio for her. No starting her own business. The moon was still bright and
she didn’t want Lucas to see her crying as they made
their way through the trees. Her parent’s cabin loomed ahead and so far neither she nor Lucas had said a single word. If he
thought of her as his mate wouldn’t he be talking
non-stop, maybe asking her out?
“Are
you having regrets about tonight and what we did?” he finally said.
“No, absolutely not.”
Liar, liar wolf
pants on fire.
“I
have to say it was fun and not just because of the sex. It was great hanging
out with you and Nick,” she said.
Especially you.
They
arrived at the door of the cabin.
“I’d
talk you into letting me stay the night but as Nick said, you’re too much of a
temptation.”
She
bit her lip and nodded, making the tears splash onto her chest.
“Hey,
you’re crying?”
“No, just the cold air getting to my
sinuses.”
He
leaned over and kissed her and pulled away. “I’ll see
you next weekend and let’s talk then.”
Talk,
did that mean what she thought?
“Sure,
I’m looking forward to it.”
She
pulled out the key from her pocket and quickly opened the door, waving to Lucas
before she rushed inside. She put her back against its panel, pressing hard
just to be sure she could feel it and prove that she wasn’t dreaming or in this case, having a nightmare.
Her
body had led her into a dangerous situation. No, no more
bullshit. She’d put herself into that spot. So
how do you wind back the clock so you didn’t end up
making the biggest mistake of your life?
Chapter Eight
Nick
woke up and saw the sun peeking through a gap in the drapes in his bedroom. At this time of the year, it had to be late in the day. He sat up, feeling stiffness in
his legs and
