walk out
her door and head to my car. I drive to my condo at City Center, and
as I park my car, I see Luke getting out of his.
    “Well, this is
something new. Since when did my oldest brother stay out as late as
me? And with no shirt on. ”
    “Ha-ha! I’m not
that old.”
    “So, your date went
well?” he asks as we walk to the elevator and punch the buttons for
our floors. We both live in penthouses here.
I decide that I need to
confide in someone, so I tell him the truth. “Actually, no. I
wasn’t into my date at all.”
    “Then what happened
to your…oh shit, Chloe.” He looks me in the eye, and I nod. “You
need to be careful, man. She nearly destroyed you last time.”
    “It’s only about
sex this time.” The words sound hollow even to me.
    “It may be that now,
but we both know that you’ve never gotten over her. You know we’ll
all support you if you take her back. She was like a sister to the
rest of us. But just take it slow. Make sure that she’s going to
stay this time.”
    “Thanks, Luke. I’m
planning on taking it slow. But you’re right. She’s the only one
for me, and I need more than just sex from her.” I tell him about
my other decision. “I’m going to let her design the interior of
the Seattle building. She told me her ideas and they’re exactly
what I had in mind.”
    “Cool. I remember the
two of you always talking about you designing buildings and her
decorating them. I’m glad that it’s working out for you.” The
elevator gets to his floor, and he steps out. “Now, if only I could
decide what I can do for the family business, we would all be happy.”
    “Luke, you can do
whatever you want. You don’t have to come work with us. You know
that, right?” He nods but I can tell he doesn’t really think so.
“I love you man, now go get some sleep.”
    “Love you too Ry.
Goodnight.” He moves off, and I go to my place and collapse onto my
bed for the couple of hours I have until my alarm will go off.

Chapter 4
    Chloe
    I’m humming to myself
as I head into the office a month after our first night at the guest
house. He still hasn’t stayed over and we don’t ever go to his
place. I know I scared him a little, okay a lot, when I said that I
love him, but I think he actually believed me. I can’t wait to
officially work with him on the Seattle project. Ryan wanted to
finish his plans before he brought me on board as the official
interior designer. Angie stops me as I head towards my desk. “You
look happy today, Chloe. That’s nice to see.” She’s always been
nice to me although she’s close enough to the family to know what
happened three years ago.
    “I am happy, Angie.
Thanks for noticing.”
    I get to work answering
emails and returning phone calls from the Chicago office and some of
the international offices too. I’m just finishing a call when Ryan
walks in, stopping at my desk. “Can I see you in my office, Chloe?”
    “Of course, Ryan,”
I tell him with a smile. I get up and follow him in. I close the door
and lock it behind me. I head for him, but he holds up a hand to stop
me.
“I need to go over a
few things with you for the Seattle project, including your salary
and timeline. It’s time to make it official. Please take a seat.”
I do as he asks, trying
hard not to show my disappointment. I thought I would be able to
touch and kiss him when I wanted to as long as it was behind closed
doors. Obviously, I was wrong. I pull myself together and tell him to
go ahead and tell me everything.
    “First off, this is
your salary for the project.” He writes something on a post it note
and slides it across his desk to me. I pick it up and look at it. My
eyes go wide when I see the number on there.
    “Are you sure about
this, Ryan? I think this is too much.”
    “It’s not too much.
You’re worth it. No one else has even come close to understanding
the project and what I want. The things you told me last night were
perfect.”
    “Thank you. I
