my mouth. I swallowed it all with joy.

"You are the most perfect woman, Kiara," Eric said leaning in to kiss me.

"It's true, the most exquisitely beautiful woman," Thomas added, "I love you."

"And I love you Kiara," Eric added.

"I love you too," I told them, smiling at the both of them.

"You know what? I should have done this a long time ago, we're through, we're done, we are sooooo over!" I yelled, rummaging through the drawers of the dresser we shared, gathering handfuls of my neatly folded clothes so they become unravelled in my hands and shoving them with force into my suitcase. "Screw you Tyrell, you're not worth it, I don't care anymore, you can have the apartment, you can have all this! Take it, I'm better off without you anyway!"

"C'mon Leish, you're being unreasonable, it was one time, one fucking time, I'll never do it again," Tyrell said trying to grab me, instead getting a swift slap across his hands.

"One time? One time my ass!!" I screamed, "you must think I'm some kinda fool boy, I don't care anymore, I don't love you Tyrell, I don't know if I ever loved you and I'm tired of staying with you're good for nothing ass, treating me like some side piece, who do you think you are?" I scoffed dramatically.

A voice inside told me to stop but I kept on going, swooping up my belongings and squishing them into the suitcase. I had no idea where I was going to go, I had $300 to my name and I wasn't being paid for another fortnight. Really, he's the one who should be leaving, he's the one who cheated, it's only fair but no, if I told Tyrell to leave he'd only be back by the time my shift was over with at the bar, and then I'd become complacent again "it's okay baby," "I forgive you baby." No way was I going back down that rabbit hole. I was taking my shit and I was getting out of this situation once and for all.

"Where are you gonna go? C'mon Leish, don't do this, you're my main girl, you're my everything baby," he said looking at me with his puppy dog eyes.

"None of your business!" I said marching to the door, "and don't call me, I mean it Tyrell, just stay out of my life!" I slammed the door behind me and lugged the suitcase to the elevator. It was already at my floor.

"Don't go Leish, let's talk about this!" Tyrell said coming out of the apartment door.

I furiously pressed the close button on the elevator repeatedly, hoping he wouldn't make it to the door in time. The doors closed and I could hear Tyrell yelling as the elevator went down muffling his sounds until it became silent again. Ding! The elevator went as it let me out, I wandered out of the building into the chilly street, still lugging my heavy suitcase behind me. I flailed my arms about trying to hail a cab and to my surprise one stopped straight away.

"42, West 13th Street," I told the driver once I was inside.

I let out a deep sigh of relief, I had made it out, but soon relief turned to panic as I thought about what I had just done. Did I just make myself homeless? Oh, God, what were you thinking Aleisha! I scolded myself. I took a deep breath trying to find composure. You will be okay, Aleisha, I told myself, you always are, you've been through worse than this and you always come out on top, you are fierce, you are brave, you will preserver. I repeated it in my head like a mantra, I wasn't going to let myself fall apart, not now.

The cab pulled up outside The Babylon, the upmarket cocktail lounge I waitressed at. I paid the driver and hopped out pulling the suitcase out after me.

"Cory!" I called out to the doorman, gesturing him to come over.

"You're late Aleisha," he said walking over to me and eyeing up that suitcase, "what's with that?"

"Please don't say that to me right now, it's a long story, but would you pretty, pretty please mind taking it in and putting it out back for me?" I asked putting on my best damsel in distress voice.
