aren’t up to their tricks today. I need a test to see how quickly my experiment is working.”
“It’s been one day. Grant would have to have some serious sexual mojo to fix you after one time.”
He certainly did, but she wouldn’t give Samantha the details. “I guess it is a little too much to ask. Still, I’d like some type of test.”
Samantha dipped three fingers into the batter and slung it in Bobbie’s face.
Bobbie grabbed for the nearest towel. “Are you insane?”
“You aren’t clawing up the metal counters, and I don’t have to lock you in the freezer again, so yeah, I think your ‘good times’ experiment might be working.”
She threw the towel at her cousin’s smug face. “Good. Now, let’s see if I can convince Grant to cease with these pointless bear lessons.”

Grant met her in the alley at nine wearing his woodsy uniform again. He bent his head to give her a hello kiss but paused mid-air. Instead he inhaled deeply. “Wow, you smell incredible.”
She pushed his shoulder. “I still have donut batter in my hair.” She leaned up to meet his lips for the stalled kiss and saw the lingering question in his eyes. “Don’t ask.”
Their lips finally met in a sweet kiss meant for couples who’d dated much longer than two days. She liked it though, as it gave her a sense of comfort. Grant was a man she could trust.
Once again he drove her outside the limits of Foxhollow and onto the Steese Highway, then off the pavement and out into the forest. The truck pulled through a break in the trees, and the gravel crunched in long rectangular driveway. The red cedar log cabin at the end of the drive had a two-car garage and large bay windows beside the front door. Two rocking chairs sat on the front porch.
    “Where are we?” she asked.
“This is my cabin. We’re at the far corner of our property. We won’t be disturbed out here.”
“I like the sound of that.” She hopped out of the truck and followed him to the end of the drive. “What’s lesson one, coach?”
    “Hide and seek.”
Kid’s games. Yuck. “Are we seven years old? Shouldn’t we leave the games for your little brothers?”
“Your senses need to be strengthened. If you learn to work with your bear, you’ll learn to keep her under control. And she’ll be there when you need her. Stop denying her the native time she deserves.”
“I won’t need her in the city.”
He stopped her with a glare, and then his eyes softened. “Okay. Fine. Think of it as a sexy hide and seek. If you find me, I’ll do delicious things to your body on the spot.”
Bobbie clapped her hands and held them together. “That’s more like it.”
“Count to thirty, and come find me.” The grin that crawled across his face left her knees wobbly.
“One. Two. Three.” Did she really need to count out loud? Grant trotted off to her left, and she admired everything about his physique as it disappeared into the woods. There were worse ways to spend an afternoon.
When her count hit thirty, she walked into the tree line where she’d last seen him. How far would he go? Would he climb a tree? She should have set a few game parameters before she let him wander off. At least she’d worn boots like he’d asked.
Great fun . Would she really be in the mood for sexy games if she had to wander around for a couple of hours? She stepped over a few broken tree limbs and lost her footing. In an effort to stop the fall, she grabbed for the nearest tree and her hand smashed against the bark. A small splinter embedded in her palm. Fucker ! What in the mother of all insanity was she doing out here? Grant felt some urge to change her, and she didn’t want to be different. Just less bear and more normal. It took three tries to get the stupid splinter out of her hand. Out in the woods for less than thirty minutes, and already this needed to be over. She’d call for her inner bear spirit, however that worked, and get this thing
