sheriff crossed his arms and his lips lifted in a cold smile. “I don’t mind taking Ty to town and bringing him back to the Double D. As a matter of fact, I insist on it.”
I’m sure he’ll love driving me to town, Ty thought as he grabbed his shirt from the sofa and walked into the bedroom. Great. Just what I need…an angry, overprotective father drilling me about my intentions with his daughter all the way to the station.

“What are your intentions with my daughter?” Jake said as soon as they started down the drive toward the main road.
Yep, he’d known it was coming. Ty almost sighed out loud. “Pardon?”
“You heard me.”
Ty narrowed his gaze at the man’s brisk tone. “I’m just here for my sister’s wedding, Sheriff.”
“Evan’s a virgin,” Jake said as if he hadn’t spoken.
“And just why the hell is Evan’s sex life or lack thereof everyone’s business?” Ty snapped, more than a little annoyed for Evan’s sake. Obviously he wasn’t the only guy the sheriff had shared this information with.
“Because she’s my little girl,” the sheriff countered as if that answered everything.
“What Evan chooses to do or not do with her sex life is up to her and no one else.”
Jake’s dark eyebrows drew together at Ty’s open challenge. “You’ve got some brass ones. I’ll give you that. But mine are bigger. Her mother died when Evan was ten. She’s all I’ve got in my life and no one is going to screw with her…either literally or figuratively.”
Ty glanced away, peering out the window. Why did he even say anything? It wasn’t like he was going to take Evan up on her proposition. But for some reason, the fact the whole damn town was probably aware of Evan’s virginity bugged the shit out of him. No wonder she wanted to get the hell rid of it. It’d become a thorn in her side instead of a special gift to give the right man in her life. Glancing at her overbearing father, he knew exactly why Evan was still a virgin. In such a small town, no one would go against the sheriff without putting a ring on her finger.
No one, except me , his subconscious finished the thought even if he never planned to act on it.

“Hey, big brother,” Jena said as she ran up and hugged him tight. Ty gave her a bear hug and twirled her around. He didn’t realize how much he’d miss seeing his sister until she moved to Texas a couple of months ago.
“It’s great to see you, too.” Setting Jena on the ground he looped his arm across her shoulders as he shook Harm’s outstretched hand. “Good to see you again, Harm. You ready to stop living in sin with my sister?”
“Ty! We waited for you .” Jena jabbed him in the ribs with her elbow then moved over to hug Harm’s waist.
Harm kissed her on the temple and pulled her close, a wide grin on his face. “Hell yeah, I’m ready,” he replied as he tilted his Stetson back.
“What took you so long to get here this morning?”
Ty took in his sister’s rosy cheeks, the highlights in her blonde hair lightened even more by the Texas sun. His sister was truly happy. His gut tightened a little at the thought she’d be permanently so far away. He’d just have to make an effort to visit her a couple of times a year.
“The sheriff showed up this morning to let me know my rental car had been recovered along with my stuff.”
“I’m really sorry about your car getting stolen. What rotten luck.”
“Yeah, Texas seems to do that to me,” he said in a wry tone.
“Well, I’m glad you’re settled at the Double D. At least you’ll have the privacy you like so much,” she teased.
“Um, you said Ty could stay at your aunt’s house?” A concerned expression crossed Harm’s face.
Jena glanced up at her fiancé. “Yes, why?”
Harm gave her a sheepish look, “Well, ‘cause I told Evan she could use the house while she was taking care of Flash.”
“Oh.” Jena’s gaze jerked to her brother.
Ty shook his head.
