of vampires.
Fuck him.
He didn’t need a mate. He’d find another way to bring new blood into his tribe. Electus Daniel Everson could go take a long walk off a short pier. Carlton’s mind whirled with different escape scenarios until his eyelids grew heavy and started to close. As he drifted off into sleep, those images turned from ones of escape to ones filled with Daniel fucking him again.

“Did he eat?” Daniel asked when Sadiki walked into his office and sat down in the chair across the desk from him.
“He refused.”
Daniel sighed deeply and rubbed his hand down his face. Claiming Carlton was turning out to be a lot harder than he had first anticipated. The man fought him at every turn, except for when Daniel was balls-deep inside the man’s ass.
If Daniel could figure out how to keep Carlton permanently attached to his cock, he would. It seemed to be the only time there was any give in the large alpha wolf shifter.
“Do you really think this is a good idea, Daniel?”
Daniel raised his head to look at Sadiki in surprise, both at the question and the man’s use of his given name. Sadiki had never called him anything other than electus in all of the years that they had known each other, and there were a lot of years.
“Do I think what is a good idea, Sadiki?”
“Claiming the wolf?”
“He’s mine.”
“I understand that, Daniel, but he’s a wolf. A vampire would be a much better choice for our tribe.”
Daniel gawked at Sadiki. “It’s not a choice, Sadiki. Carlton is my anamchara, the person fated to be mine. Not claiming him is out of the question. You know that.”
“Claim him if you must, Daniel, but keep him hidden away, chained to your bed where he belongs. Don’t bring him out into the tribe.”
“What?” Daniel growled, anger instantly making him tense. “You would have me deny my anamchara?”
“No, of course not,” Sadiki said quickly. “I’m just saying that you should keep him locked up for everyone’s safety, including his. He knows nothing of our society. He’s a wolf shifter.”
Daniel’s claws extended as he leaned forward. He scraped them along the wood on his desktop, watching Sadiki’s eyes widen in shock. “Are you threatening my anamchara?”
“Never, Electus!” Sadiki gulped. “I’m just saying that not everyone will be as understanding as I am. There are those that will not accept a wolf shifter into our tribe. I wouldn’t want to see anything happen to your wolf.”
Daniel sat back in his chair and retracted his claws. He wasn’t sure if he believed Sadiki, considering the way the man’s eyes kept darting around the room, but he really had no reason to not believe him. Sadiki had never betrayed him in the past. Daniel had no reason to believe he would now.
“I will not deny my anamchara, Sadiki, not for you and not for my tribe. Carlton is mine. I have already claimed him. He will be presented to the tribe as my anamchara, and I expect everyone to treat him as such.”
“As you wish, Electus.” Sadiki bowed his head and stood, turning toward the door.
“Sadiki.” Daniel waited until Sadiki had turned back to face him before speaking. He wanted the man to see the seriousness on his face. “Do not presume to think that my anamchara makes me weak. Anyone that threatens my anamchara will be dealt with accordingly. Anyone that harms my anamchara will die by my hand.”
“Yes, Electus.”
Daniel stared intently at Sadiki before nodding his head. Sadiki practically ran from the room. Daniel sighed and tried to rub some of the tension out of his shoulders. There were some days that he felt each and every one of his thousand years.
This was one of them.
Daniel reached for the phone and dialed Luca’s phone number. He needed to reassure the electus that Carlton would no longer be a threat to Rowan, and he wanted to see how the little wolf was faring.
As much as the man drove him crazy, he had started to grow on Daniel. Rowan was unique, even above and
