focus from the haze of sleep, on the pallor of Jeff’s face. His eyes had dark rings around them. I turned to look at the clock perched on the bedside table. It was 5:30 in the morning. From the look of him, he must have been up all night.
“Jeff darling, have you been awake all night?” I asked
He slowly rose his head and gazed at my face, his eyes void of expression. He lowered his eyes back to the spot between the legs, which had him hypnotised.
“So much time wasted.” As he spoke the words, the tears fell from his eyes. He gently rested his head on my chest and pulled me closer. “I’m so sorry Stace. I never knew it could be like that. I’ve wasted so much time. If I’d just asked someone, we could have been doing this much sooner.”
His tears soaked my chest as I stroked his hair. I assured him things would be fine. “The important thing is we know now. Lack of communication was a big contributor to our issues in the bedroom, neither one of us had the confidence to say what we wanted. This needs to change Jeff. We need to be open and honest in what we desire from the other when it comes to sex.”
“I agree with you pet—things need to change.” He grabbed some of the sheet and wiped his face. He smiled up at me. “I’m going to love getting to know you,” he said, patting my sweet spot. The action seemed to arouse him. He nudged my legs apart and slid in between them.
We made love. Our climax was less intense than the previous night, yet it was more satisfying. Jeff left for work soon after, saying he’d grab a toasted egg sandwich and coffee from the café near his office.

Not having to busy myself making breakfast for Jeff, I decided to put the extra time to good use before my meeting with Liz and Jackie. I treated myself to a new hair colour and make up. Choosing colours was usually way outside of my comfort zone. I felt confident. In fact, I felt on top of the world, as I made my way to Liz’s house. It was her turn to host our book club meeting.
Ironically enough, the book we were reading was called The Good Wife by Lucee Lovett. Unfortunately, I’d felt out of sorts this week, so I hadn’t read it. I didn’t even know what the book was about. It had been Liz’s week to choose. I would have to sit and listen to Liz and Jackie discuss the book’s content and gauge from their discussion, if it was worth reading later.
On the approach to Liz’s house, my confidence dwindled. I became nervous. Changing my hair and makeup had been a whim. Although the girls at the salon had gasped and said it was perfect for the shape of my face and colouring. I wasn’t so sure anymore. I forced myself to push the doorbell and stepped back to wait for their reaction.
Jackie opened the door, took one look at me and screamed. She grabbed my hand and pulled me into the house. All the time, screaming for Liz to come and look. Liz met us at the doorway of the lounge with a panicked expression.
“Oh My God! Look Liz, Stace has got a new do.”
“Are you fucking serious.” Liz said holding her chest. “You almost gave me a fucking heart attack! I thought something serious had happened. Go, shut my frigging door—you psycho.” Liz looked me up and down.
    I blushed.
Then she gave a wolf whistle and spun me around. “Do you ever look hot? What the fuck did Jeff do to deserve all this?” She waved a hand up and down my length.
I smiled pleased with myself for making the decision to change my image. “Nothing, I just felt like a change,” I said.
“It more than just your hair and makeup, that’s changed. You look different, glowing. There’s only two things that make a woman look like you do. You’re either fucking around on Jeff or you’re pregnant. So come on; which one is it, give…” Liz said.
“I don’t know what you mean,” I said, all arrogant like. I pulled my bag strap further up my shoulder, walked past her into the lounge, and took a seat on the sofa.
    “I think
