struggled to save a child's life and we thought you died because his house was growing way too unstable. Anyway, team, check back in when everything's secured," Eddie then escorted the rest of the team out to the truck.
"Tshh," hissed Jax as Eddie chuckled, closing the truck door after himself, leaving a muffled sound through the truck walls of his voice commanding other officers.
"How've you been Jax? It's been a while," I asked with a stupid grin on my face as I turned to face him. I had forgotten all about the incident two years ago.
There had been a fire and I almost didn't make it. If it hadn't been for this guy, I probably wouldn't be standing here grinning like a fool now.
"Hey! I remember you! John is it?" he asked in response.
As usual, in these cases, we went in silent. The last thing we wanted to do was attract attention to whatever it was that the scientist had gotten himself into.
I nodded. "Yes, and I owe you my life. How've you been?"
"Well," he said, shrugging as he put on his firesuit, "it hasn't been that tough to be honest. Got picked up by these guys and just winging it."
"Have anyone special?" I wondered. Jax was a big fellow. I don't mean fat, I mean he was barrel-chested and had muscles in places I never even knew existed.
"Naw, I live alone, no other half, couple of friends I see at the pub now and then." He then got up to lean towards me and whispered,"you know, it's shocking how many wanks a day a guy needs when having no action. Know what I mean?"
"Yeah," I replied nervously and, feeling a bit uncomfortable, changed the subject. "So how long you been on the force?"
Before Jax had a chance to reply, the door opened and the light from the fire burned our eyes, causing us to squint. We both walked out of the truck and observed our surroundings. Looking up, we were met by a building that shone bright red under the terror of flames.
While reporting to Jax what I saw and heard, I turned to see him already running through the door directly below the sound of the screams. So it was up to me to check the rest of the place.
There was another door a few feet to the left of the one Jax rammed open with his left shoulder. Copying him, I barged open the door the exact same way and stumbled in.
Once inside the room, I saw an open door leading to a strangely dark room, so I decided to check in there first. My heart hammered in my chest as I realized that there were no flames.
"That's impossible!" I whistled to myself.
Quickly scanning the room, my eyes were drawn to a table full of vials. Upon further inspection, I noticed they all had cryptic labels such as "3MZ" and "2SH." They all said the same thing: "Taken orally."
I heard a burst of flame followed by a fire extinguisher. I assumed it was Jax, so I ran outside the room.
"Who the hell are you?" I exclaimed at the man in a white jacket standing before me, I guessed he was linked the room I just ran out of.
"I really don't have time to explain, I need emergency attention. I think I might be bleeding internally." He explained. He then looked at a test tube that happened to fall into my pocket while I was leaving the room before.
"I have to warn you that vial contains an experimental liquid."
"Experimental?" I asked, patting my shirt.
"Yeah," he replied as he followed me out of the burning building.
"What does it do?" I wondered.
"Top secret."
"Oh, come on, I'm saving your life. Just tell me."
He stopped me in a safe part of the building. "All right, but you can't breathe a word of this to anyone."
"Fine!" I pulled out the bottle an absentmindedly fondled it.
"Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a woman?"
I started to say no, but then I remembered what my wife had said right before I left. I nodded.
"Well," he gestured to the liquid, "wonder no more."
My eyes lit up and my palms grew clammy. "You mean--" my words were cut off by a falling beam a few feet away. Maybe this wasn't the best place to discuss it.
"Follow me," I said
